The Department of Facilities Planning & Safety at the SUNY Oneonta invites applications for the position of Life Safety Systems Assistant. This position is responsible for servicing, maintenance, inspection, and record keeping of life safety systems such as fire extinguishers, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and other life safety systems. The position reports to the Environmental Health & Safety Officer.
The Department of Facilities Planning and Safety is responsible for capital planning, delivery of capital projects, energy management, space management, facilities operations, and property control across 45 major buildings and approximately 2.4 million gross square feet of building floor space. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Servicing and maintenance of Automatic External defibrillators (AED) systems
- Management of the fire extinguisher program including extinguisher maintenance, coordination of annual inspections and maintenance of record keeping
- Management of other life safety system compliance programs
- Participation in inspections with regulatory and campus agencies
- Code enforcement support and participation on the Facilities emergency response team

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree
- Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable fire safety codes, regulations & standards
- Effective written communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to exercise good judgement and decision-making skills
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office products
- Ability to carry and move items up to 50lbs
- Must have (and maintain) a valid New York State Driver License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Emergency Management, Fire Science, Fire Protection Technology, or a related field
- New York State Firefighter certification, New York State Certified Code Enforcement Official or Building Safety Inspector
- 3 or more years related work experience in code compliance, fire systems supervision, full time career firefighter or Fire Protection Specialist
- Experience working in a safety related position at an institute of higher education
- Experience working with and serving diverse populations
