The James M. Milne Library at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Scholarly Communications Librarian . Working both independently and with a dynamic team of partners, the Scholarly Communications Librarian co-leads the campus OER initiative and provides a broad spectrum of "open" academic programming and support. The ideal candidate possesses a love of learning, the ability to think critically with a dash of ingenuity, and enjoys outreach to myriad audiences. The twelve-month, tenure-track librarian reports to the Head of Information Literacy and Academic Engagement and holds the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian, with an initial two-year appointment.

Milne Library employs 23 full-time staff members, and our goal is to support learning and scholarship through the collection, curation, preservation, and sharing of knowledge. The James M. Milne Library provides inviting, comfortable spaces for discovery, intellectual growth and exchange, and cultural enrichment.

The Scholarly Communications Librarian is responsible for academic programming, instruction, services, and resources related to OER (Open Educational Resources), open access (OA), and the scholarly information lifecycle. This position works both independently and collaboratively with partners throughout the institution to provide excellent library services related to OER and open access. The Scholarly Communications Librarian co-leads the University Open Education Resources (OER) Initiative and manages the institution's scholarly open access repository and open access publishing fund, as well as working with students in support of their research.

To meet tenure-track requirements, the successful candidate will perform effectively as a librarian, serve on library and campus committees, make scholarly contributions to the field, and pursue ongoing professional development. Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Coordinate library services related to Open Educational Resources (OER), open access, open repositories, scholarly communication, and digital scholarship.
  • Co-lead a dynamic, cross-departmental partnership supporting our OER initiative, and consult with faculty on discovering and utilizing excellent curricular materials and library learning resources to enhance student learning.
  • Assist the campus community with bibliometrics and research / scholarly impact.
  • Engage in outreach activities related to the library and / or scholarly communications to the campus community.
  • Support student and faculty digital scholarship.
  • Explore grant opportunities.
  • Actively participate in regional, national, and international communities of practice around scholarly communication.
  • Maintain appropriate statistics regularly and meet benchmarks for areas.
  • Participate in department and University-wide committees, events, and professional organizations.
  • Participate in liaison duties including outreach and collection development to assigned academic departments.
  • Other duties or projects assigned as appropriate to department and library needs.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent credential) at the time of employment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scholarly communication practices, communities, and resources as shown in previous experience or coursework.
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with others.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience in an academic library or academic setting.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience managing projects.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills, including but not limited to demonstrations through application materials.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and / or teaching pedagogies and / or multicultural teaching experience.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of digital collections including concepts and tools.
