Position Summary:
SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for an Alumni Specialist for our Foundation Department.
The Alumni Specialist will be engaged with building a culture of philanthropy and alumni connectedness by inspiring our community of 20,000 alumni through outreach, creative events, programming, publications, and communication. The Alumni Specialist will report to the Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and External Relations.

An initial starting salary of $43,300 will be commensurate with education, training, and experience per academic year with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.

- Develop a broad-based alumni relations plan that would engage alumni and cultivate giving with measurable goals and performance metrics
- Proactively devise, oversee the planning and successful execution of various alumni focused events that are sponsored by the Foundation and SUNY Ulster, including the Alumni Hall of Fame Induction; Reunion(s); Affinity groups; Local, regional and national alumni events, meetings, and other events
- Create and implement communications plan to alumni including traditional, online, and social media outreach, including an electronic newsletter, alumni survey/directory and correspondence with alumni
- Devise relevant metrics to track the impact and success of such communications efforts
- Assisting the Foundation Team with all Raiser’s Edge related alumni and data management needs; Assisting Development staff with Alumni outreach for other fundraising functions, such as the Annual Gala, the Annual Fund, etc
- Managing a portfolio of alumni donors to engage, cultivate and solicit for philanthropic support on an annual basis.
- Collaborating with SUNY Ulster on loyalty programs providing a benefit or service to alumni to cultivate volunteers and donors and generate income for alumni programming.
- Overseeing the selection and distribution of several alumni scholarship awards and awards that recognize outstanding alumni achievements
- Working with all alumni and campus constituencies to build a community and enhance diversity and inclusion;
- Serve as collaborative team member of the Foundation Staff and perform other tasks as assigned
- Interest in all aspects of education and a dedication to promoting the college's priorities through developing excellent relationships with a broad range of individuals including but not limited to alumni, faculty/staff, emeriti and friends
- Plan, organize and complete projects simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
- Delegate, cooperate, and collaborate with cross-campus partners, various constituency groups, and volunteers
- Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of senior level professional work experience in alumni relations or a related field. For example: Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education, Business, Sales, Marketing and minimum 3 years relevant work experience required
- Experience in donor database software, ideally Raiser’s Edge
- Ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours, including some evenings and weekends for events
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; Proficient in MS Office
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
- Experience with and the ability to work with a culturally diverse population
- Willingness to manage a portfolio of prospective donors
- Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests
