What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant position at SUNY Upstate Medical University?
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor I, this position will perform semi-skilled tasks, maintenance services on areas used by patients, guests, visitors and all other customers within University Hospital. Must demonstrate the ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; understand and carry out written and verbal instructions; possess working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, & equipment used in the trades to which assigned; ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms; demonstrate the ability to adhere to safety standards; and ability to operate a motor vehicle. Shall be responsible for, but not limited to, demonstrate the ability to interact with customers and meet their maintenance expectations; ability to inspect and repair ceilings, walls, floors, doors, electrical items, medical gas alarm stations, plumbing and miscellaneous items. Person must be free from beard and facial hair that may interfere with the fit or seal of a mask respirator at the time of fit testing. Such a mask must be worn in order to comply with State & Federal Safety Health Codes. Reassignment offers are contingent upon satisfactory evaluation from the Employee Health Office.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Drivers License.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in maintenance work or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson or completion of an appropriate two year technical school course at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

Position Status: Contingent Permanent; Schedule based on a 40 hour work week.
