The Logistics Safety and Compliance Manager will develop, coordinate, and implement driver safety policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective driver safety operations in the organization.

Required Education and Experience

  • 4 Years Safety and Compliance in DOT Maintenance Management
  • CDL Experience.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, leadership, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Must be 19 years of age or older.
  • Pre-employment background check and drug screening required.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience with Fleet Maintenance (Certifications preferred, not required.)
  • Associates in Diesel Repair Technology
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish) skills strongly preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) - Limble is preferred.
  • Proficient in Fleet Tracking Software used for accident and maintenance reporting - SamSara is preferred.

To perform essential job duties, all potential new hires must be eligible to drive a company vehicle according to Super-Sod insurance guidelines:

1) Must possess a valid driver’s license
2) No major safety and moving violations reported on MVR within the past (3) years.

Violations include:

  • Felony convictions
  • Automobile insurance canceled or not renewed by an insurance company due to excessive tickets, accidents, points, or fraud.
  • Convicted of alcohol or drug related offense while driving.
  • Convicted of three or more speeding violations or serious moving violations; moving violations include texting or cell phone violations.
  • Been involved in two or more chargeable accidents.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Establish and implement safety practices to ensure successful Delivery execution.
  • Maintain all driver training and ensure all operational activities are in compliance with all State and Federal rules & regulations.
  • Conduct weekly, monthly and quarterly safety meetings to include tractor-trailer and forklift best practice; document attendances.
  • Coordinates DOT and FMCSA compliance scheduling with Human Resources department.
  • Coordinate with Supervisors to ensure proper coaching of driver safety violations and point hiring/termination as needed.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and the Company Safety Director, works to administer quarterly and annual reporting under federal and state guidelines.
  • In collaboration with the Company Safety Committee, manages the Accident Investigation process for Regional Logistics team members.
  • Monitors and manages Compliance, Safety and Accountability scores; Conducts routine counseling with individual Drivers to resolve safety scores and reduce infractions.
  • Conducts new Driver training and oversees continuous education programs for all regional logistics employees.
  • In collaboration with Regional Maintenance Manager, ensures all routine vehicle maintenance is scheduled, performed and within safety compliance.
  • Work with Operations team and stakeholders to ensure all logistics staff comply with FMCSA/DOT and Company Safety standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Travel

This position requires 75% travel time.

Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of FMCSA and DOT regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and ability to conduct effective training.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with computerized distribution systems.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This is a managerial role which requires direct and effective oversight all Safety and Compliance items related to the Regional Hauling team. Must demonstrate self-management skills.

Work Environment

This job operates primarily in a professional retail environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, e-filing systems, and fax machines. The employee will be expected to work outside in all weather conditions and must have suitable clothing. They must have the ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions, not just including extreme weather but enclosed spaces. The employee will be expected to work around and with machinery that distributes loud noises and exhaust. Personal Protective gear is provided by the employer. This position does require handling and operating of heavy equipment which may introduce a high risk to slips, trips and falls.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. While this position is primarily sedentary, the employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift products and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Logistics Director; though typical hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some weekend hours will be necessary to accommodate any issues that may arise.
