Position Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to join our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) team at VCU Medical Center. The RRT will provide specialized respiratory care to critically ill newborns, ensuring optimal respiratory function and supporting the multidisciplinary team in delivering exceptional care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive evaluations of neonatal patients, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure, to determine respiratory needs.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Administer respiratory therapies such as oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Mechanical Ventilation: Assist with the placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation for neonates.
- Monitoring and Documentation: Continuously monitor patient responses to therapy, documenting all interventions and outcomes accurately.
- Emergency Response: Respond promptly to emergent situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts.
- Collaboration: Work closely with neonatologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Education: Provide education and support to families regarding respiratory care and equipment usage.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
- Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in the state of Virginia.
- Experience: Prior experience in neonatal respiratory care is preferred.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications are required.
- Skills: Strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency in neonatal respiratory equipment, and excellent communication abilities.
