OUR AREA
Bayfield is a major tourist destination for all types of travelers and Superior Charters is the launching point for sailing trips in the area. During the season, we send our guests on hundreds of trips into the islands on our fleet of 22 sailboats. We are extremely busy in the summer, and this schedule means we need motivated and energized staff to keep everything running smoothly. Our employees work hard, but they play hard too! Outside of work, the area boasts over 300 miles of biking trails, nearly 40 hiking trails and all kinds of adventure outfitters to help you get out into nature and enjoy every bit of what the area has to offer.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Summer is a busy time, so we need a crew that can keep up with this fast pace. This job is filled with a lot of hard work and responsibility, but it can also be fun, exciting and provide some new experiences. The first impression of any chartered vessel is the most important, and the Fleet Technician bears the responsibility of making sure our yachts are in good repair for any incoming charter customers throughout the summer. The primary responsibility for the Fleet Technician is to complete light maintenance/repair on all vessels in the fleet, assist with fueling, pumping, and turning boats between charters and manage our outboard motor fleet. Mechanic and/or small engine repair experience preferred.
Each employee will be trained with primary job responsibilities and then be expected to fill in where needed with other positions through the business. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, a team player, and possess the ability to thoroughly complete assigned tasks from start to finish.
TIME/WAGE
Our busy season runs from June 1 - September 15 during which we will look to employ full time summer crew. The Fleet Technician position includes part-time work during our early and late seasons, beginning April 15 and wrapping up in early November. The Fleet Technician position is a seasonal position of 30-40 hours per week. Generally, the Fleet Technician works 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. At times, the schedule may flex between 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM as necessary. Some weekend work required. Competitive wages start at $18.00 per hour and go up depending on experience. Opportunities for advancement are available upon demonstrated performance. Superior Charters does have limited housing available. If needed, housing can be built into your compensation package.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Responsible for light maintenance on all vessels in the fleet, including:
- Minor repairs, door handles, storage and port hole latches, etc.
- Minor electrical/mechanical repairs
- Domestic water repairs
- Marine sanitation system repairs, joker valves, etc.
- Other minor repairs as needed including cosmetic repairs when necessary
- Necessary service on all vessels as needed (oil & fuel filter changes, impellers, belts, batteries, etc.)
- Diagnosing other repairs requiring sub-contractor services
- Accurately and neatly prepare all necessary forms including Maintenance Reporting, Work Orders, Order Records, Pump & Turn Sheets and Maintenance Invoicing
- Become thoroughly knowledgeable about vessels in charter fleet (handling characteristics, operation systems, sail systems, etc.)
- Work directly with marina service departments and other sub-contractors to manage outsourced repairs and servicing as needed
- Manage dinghy fleet – maintenance, organization, delivery and repair
- Pumping, fueling, filling water tanks and turning boats inspecting for and completing any necessary maintenance during turns
- Assisting fleet crew with spring commissioning services on all vessels as needed including washing and waxing – comfortability on ladders required
- Winterizing boat and water systems as well as engines following sailing season wrap-up
- Assisting fleet crew with hemming, framing, wrapping and covering of fleet boats as necessary
- Assist fleet crew as necessary
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of supply room – manage inventory of maintenance supplies and order when necessary
- Attend fleet crew meetings as necessary
- As a representative of SCI, must present a clean, professional appearance, and project a friendly, helpful, and positive attitude toward every individual in the marina
- Other maintenance related duties as assigned by Director of Operations
- Serve as a leader to the Exterior Crew, leading by example by working hard and being a team player
- Help to direct and serve customers as needed
