Role
This entry-level HR Generalist role plays a crucial role in supporting the human resources department by taking on a variety of HR functions within recruitment, employee onboarding, benefits administration, payroll and labor law compliance. This position ensures smooth and efficient HR operations, handling day-to-day tasks such as processing payroll, maintaining employee records, addressing employee inquiries, and assisting with recruitment and onboarding. The HR Generalist works closely with employees to promote a positive workplace culture and contribute to the overall success of the Credit Union by fostering employee engagement, development, and overall satisfaction.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Assist with recruitment activities including career fairs, job postings, phone screens, interviews, reference checks and background checks
- Help coordinate and facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring completion of necessary paperwork and training. Generate a positive first impression for new hires while focusing on our member-first mission
- Ensure employee hours are accurately tracked and reported. Assist with the input of deductions and reimbursements for payroll processing. Double check entries and payroll for errors
- Support employees with benefit-related inquiries and enrollment. Support the administration of employee benefits programs.
- Recommend changes or additions to the benefit program to reflect employee and organizational needs
- Provide support in addressing employee concerns, inquiries and grievances in a professional and timely manner.
- Contribute to organizing employee engagement activities and events to boost morale and foster a positive work culture
- Assist with the preparation of HR-related documents, such as job descriptions and performance reviews
- Maintain all personnel files and records for the organization
- Ensure the credit union is compliant with all State and Federal employment laws and regulations
- Exhibit a positive attitude toward Credit Union initiatives and mission statement, supporting member acquisition and retention.
Performance Measurements
- Provide informed, professional, accurate service and support to all team members by responding to employee concerns
- Analyze staffing requirements, make recommendations, and recruit and screen qualified candidates in a timely fashion
- Ensure human resource programs and actions are in compliance with organizational policies and relevant State and Federal regulations
- Administer benefits and time and attendance records for payroll input, review payroll reports, and ensure human resource database is maintained with minimal errors
Knowledge & Skills
Experience One to three years of similar or related experience
Education (1) a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, communications, or related field or (2) relevant work experience
Skills Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
Must be well organized and detail oriented
Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Ability to travel as needed
Interpersonal Skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of business development, building relationships and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion, requiring diplomacy and tact in communication.
