What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Financial Services Clerk position at Superior Court of California, County of Contra Costa?
The Court is conducting an open recruitment to fill a permanent Senior Financial Services Clerk vacancy in the Financial Services Division. The vacancy is in the unit that handles Budgeting, Cash Management, Accounting, Grant Accounting, Procurement and Accounts Payable.
Candidates may be considered for this vacancy and for future vacancies in other units of the Financial Services Division, and will be required to cross train in multiple subject areas. An eligibility list will be established as a result of this recruitment and may be used to fill other vacancies in the future. Only incumbents who meet the minimum qualifications by the final filing date may apply.The individual appointed to this position must be able to: 1) work well with others as well as work independently; 2) have the ability to handle multiple assignments and deadlines; 3) maintain a positive and professional attitude and possess good interpersonal and oral communication skills; and 4) work in a confidential working environment. Regular and punctual attendance is essential. The IDEAL CANDIDATE should have the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Spreadsheet applications; with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel for compiling, calculating, and reporting data in moderately complex spreadsheets.
- Computers, Microsoft Office and Outlook applications and applications specific to accounting. The Court currently uses SAP as its financial system;
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (including general ledger accounting, accrual accounting, and journal entries), mathematics and statistics; and
- Correct usage of punctuation, grammar, vocabulary and spelling.
Ability to:
- Process a high volume of invoice payments and other financial transactions timely and accurately in the financial system;
- Understand, interpret, explain and apply a variety of policies, procedures, and contract requirements;
- Organize and prioritize duties to meet deadlines while maintaining close attention to detail and accuracy;
- Independently prepare, organize, monitor and maintain accurate electronic and paper financial records and reports;
- Respond professionally, courteously and timey to inquiries from vendors, judicial officers and court employees, and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others; and
- Perform a wide variety of complex and specialized clerical support work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a high school diploma, a GED equivalency certificate or a high school proficiency certificate.
One (1) year of experience as a Financial Services Clerk III, Clerk III (or equivalent or higher level experience) with Contra Costa Superior Court; or,
Three (3) years of experience in the areas(s) of audit, accounting, budget, or related field.
An Associate’s Degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field from an accredited college can substitute for one (1) year of the required clerical experience.
A Bachelor’s Degree or higher post graduate degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field from an accredited college or university can substitute for two (2) years of the required work experience.Application and Selection Process:

GENERAL INFORMATION
Conditions of Employment
Successful completion of fingerprint and a criminal record background check is required prior to appointment and is a condition of employment.
Because the Court operates in multiple branches, the employee may be required to travel to other court locations, and possession of a valid California driver’s license is therefore required. All employees of the court who operate a vehicle on court business must certify they possess a valid California Driver’s License and required levels of automobile insurance.
ConvictionsFelony and misdemeanor convictions MAY BE disqualifying for employment with the court. The court will assess the nature and gravity of the offense, the time that has elapsed since the offense was committed, and the nature of the job duties to be performed.
Employment Eligibility:
In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, all persons hired after November 6, 1986, are required to present to the Court, at the time of appointment, original documents which show satisfactory proof of: 1.) identity and 2.) U.S. Citizenship or a legal authorization to work in the United States.
