DEFINITION Under general direction performs a variety of complex duties; plans, manages, analyzes, recommends and coordinates court calendar assignments. Works closely with the Presiding Judge and/or the Supervising Judge to ensure timely and accurate coordination of case assignments.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This class is a second level supervisory position. Incumbent is responsible for coordinating court calendars, supervising and coordinating jury services, and supervising clerical staff assigned to a section of the Court. Incumbent manages judicial calendar assignments under the direction of the Presiding Judge and/or Supervising Judge.
This class is distinguished from the higher level of Operations Manager in that the latter manages the daily operations of a major division of the Court. It is distinguished from the lower-level class of Court Supervisor in that the latter functions as the first full supervisory level in the Court and supervises a section of the court not responsible for coordinating the calendars, outside contractors or per diem employees.Positions in this class may perform any or all of the below listed duties. - Plans, organizes and coordinates court calendars; monitors daily case flow, confers with presiding judge and/or supervising judge in assignment of cases as needed to ensure timeliness and compliance with case assignments, calendar process and procedures.
- Confers with the presiding judge, supervising judge, judges, court administrators, and staff in the development and implementation of calendaring policies and procedures.
- Prepares and distributes trial status reports, case calendar, and related information to judicial officers, court staff, and justice partners.
- Oversees clerical staff workload and assignments of court reporters and interpreters.
- Supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates, trains, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate staff.
- Confers with attorneys, justice partners regarding case scheduling, and local court rules; serves as primary resource for resolving issues regarding local court rules and practices.
- Secures judicial coverage through the assigned judges or temporary judges' program; makes accommodations, coordinates and secures alternate courtroom space, as necessary.
- Analyzes administrative calendar procedures, recommends and implements improvements as needed.
- Conducts special studies relating to the calendar; confers with judges, other court staff and attorneys regarding calendaring procedures, the status of the calendar or individual cases;
- Compiles data and prepares periodic statistical reports related to calendar and case management;
- Court Liaison for community related educational programs; coordinates the use of courtrooms for mock trials, classroom visits, or tours.
- Prepares forms and develops procedures for program operation.
- Reviews new legislation and provides summary of impact on local rules and practices.
Thorough knowledge of:
- Court policies and procedures;
- Penal Code, Civil Code of Procedures; California and local Rules of Court, Government Code and other statutes as they apply to court operations and jurisdictions;
- Legal terminology and documents related to court procedures;
- Case management rules;
- Arbitration codes and procedures.
- Analyze and evaluate court-wide processes to achieve optimal operational efficiencies;
- Function in a highly independent and effective manner;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task effectively;

Option I
Two (2) years of experience performing duties equivalent to Court Supervisor in the Superior Court of California, County of Monterey.Option II
Three (3) years of experience performing duties equivalent to a Courtroom Clerk in the Superior Court of California, County of Monterey. Option III
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in a trial court, of which one (1) year must have been in a lead worker capacity.
