Superior Court of California, County of Nevada is seeking qualified applicants for our Truckee Branch.The job’s functions encompass clerical and court room support in the preparation, maintenance and processing of a wide variety of legal documents. The collection of fees and assistance to the public regarding filing requirements, timelines, court procedures and calendaring. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICSCourt Clerk I: This position is an entry level in the Court Clerk series. This job class requires the following skills: clerical, organizational, mathematical including cashiering, written and oral communication. This job class requires the ability to use computers, software programs and other office equipment, the ability to produce quality work within established timelines and to demonstrate a positive customer service orientation. Employees in this classification receive direct supervision from a supervisory position or his/her designee within a well-defined framework of established policies and standard operating procedures. Court Clerk II: This position is the journey level in the Court Clerk series. This job class requires the skills, knowledge and abilities consistent with the Court Clerk I. This classification is distinguished from the Court Clerk I by a wider variety of assigned tasks, experience and knowledge of court policies and procedures. This position also acts as a training resource to others in assigned area(s) of expertise. Incumbents in this classification perform the full range of assigned duties in an independent manner. Incumbents in this classification receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully competent and knowledgeable of the operating procedures and policies within the court system. Employees in this job class may also be cross-trained in some or all, operational areas of the courts including, but not limited to accounting, civil, traffic, criminal, family and juvenile law in order to provide competent back-up and additional administrative and operational support as necessary.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Duties may include but are not limited to, the following: Receives and examines a variety of legal documents;Processes, indexes, prepares, and maintains documents and exhibits;Prepares notices, abstracts, warrants and other documents;Collects and records fees, fines, and bail monies; Issues receipts and balances cash drawers;Maintains accounting records related to collection of monies; and prepares deposits; Acts as a resource to other staff members, attorneys, and the general public regarding court operations, procedures, and requirements;Maintains and updates court calendars to indicate the status and disposition of cases;Acts as courtroom clerk as assigned and in a training capacity; attends court trials and hearings to provide clerical support;

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledge and abilities would be: Court Clerk I: The ability to read and write at a level required for successful job performance. At least one (1) year of work experience performing clerical, receptionist, or public contact duties. Court Clerk II: Progressively responsible work experience performing duties similar to the Court Clerk I for two (2) years, to include working with legal documents and terminology.Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment and use standard office equipment; vision to read handwritten and printed material and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone; ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds such as files, books or boxes of paper. Sitting for extended periods of time daily; moving short distances, minimal twisting, bending, stooping and lifting in the performance of assigned duties. Good memory and recall is necessary for the accurate and timely transfer of information. Assigned work is normally performed in an office environment. Employee works in a high stress environment and is exposed to high demand situations in the performance of required duties, continuous contact with staff, patrons and the public.
