The Water Resources Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining water treatment and wastewater treatment systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards. This role involves a broad range of technical duties including operation, maintenance, monitoring, testing, and treating both wastewater generated from dairy processing operations as well as supply water to support various processes and utility applications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Operate Treatment Systems : Perform daily operations of various water treatment and wastewater treatment processes and equipment including pumps, motors, control systems, process tanks, filters, softeners, and chemical storage, mixing, and dosing systems. Adjust treatment systems, processes, and equipment utilizing system analysis and trends. Manage time effectively while making calculated decisions across multiple processes. Adhere to standardized technical operations and procedures. Duties require frequently alternating periods of walking, standing, stooping, stepping up / down, kneeling, crawling, climbing, lifting, pouring, stacking, pushing, pulling, and other repetitive movements in varying weather and climatic conditions. Monitoring and Testing : Monitor treatment systems and equipment for operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. Perform routine water sample collection, preparation, and basic analytical laboratory testing according to standard procedures. Maintain lab areas and sensitive lab equipment, tools, and supplies. Properly dispose of lab waste, reagents, and consumables. Maintenance : Perform routine equipment and facilities maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and improvement projects as directed. Utilize and maintain various hand, specialty, and power tools, parts, and supplies. Adhere to standardized maintenance procedures. Perform frequent cleaning, inspection, and sanitation of equipment and facilities maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization. Conduct basic facilities maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, and structural repairs. Frequent use of ladders, stairs, catwalks, and confined spaces is required. Reporting / Record Keeping : Maintain accurate records of operations including treatment processes, test results, equipment performance, maintenance activities, and other information. Perform routine data entry, records preservation, complete detailed standardized shift reporting, and conduct standardized shift change meetings for cross-shift communication. Immediately report any operational issues to management according to standard protocols. Safety, Compliance, and Site Security : Adhere to all safety protocols and standards, best practices, and environmental and regulatory requirements. Use of required Personal Protective Equipment including safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hard hats, flame resistant uniforms, various gloves, harnesses, chemical rated jackets, pants, boots, aprons, knee pads, confined space meters, etc. Ensure site security by preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas, recording and escorting all authorized visitors, and securing all entry points during operational rounds. Chemical Handling : Manage the proper storage, inventory, and application of various chemicals used in treatment processes and other applications. Ensure safe loading, unloading, storage, transfer, handling, spill containment, cleanup, mixing, proper dosing, and material compatibility according to standard procedures. Emergency Response : Respond to system alarms and emergencies promptly to minimize operational and environmental impact. Immediately report operational issues or emergencies as required according to standard procedures. Powered Equipment Operation : Safely operate powered equipment to move materials and equipment as needed. Standard powered equipment includes powered lift truck, lull telehandler, skid-steer loader, articulating boom lift, scissor lift, and other aerial work platforms. Other duties as assigned. Requirements : Education : High school diploma or equivalent. Experience : 1-2 years previous experience in water treatment, wastewater treatment, or a related technical field is preferred. Physical Requirements : Ability to lift and move heavy materials (up to 50 pounds), walk and stand for long periods, perform a wide range of physical movements and repetitive tasks, and work safely in varying climatic conditions, heights, and confined spaces. Work Environment : Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging, and continuously improving environment. Ability to work well in a team, independently, and manage competing priorities. Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
