Description of essential job functions:
Operates extrusion line; extrudes tube to cover colored fiber in accordance with customer and Superior Essex specifications. Maintain finished product, sets up extrusion line in accordance with set up sheets and procedure manual. Totally responsible for quality of end product
Sets up and operates all necessary support equipment. For example: preheats, loads supplies, unloads and correctly indentifies finished products, performs internal jobs and pulls fiber. Performs quality checks on tube to include correct diameters. Eccentricity, color, EFL's, print quality, and diameter. Maintains clean work area in tubing department. Responsible for the compliance with quality standards.

- Computer, PLC, Extruder, extrusion tools in various sizes and designs, pay offs, capstan, cooling troughs, counter, laser micro-meters, high speed dual take-up, direct reading monitoring equipment, micro-meters, pin gauges, color meters, hand tools such as wire cutters, wrenches, razor blades, pliers, tip cleaners. - Material Used:
- Colored fiber, PBT compound, PVC compound, fire retardant compounds, identity tags, monitor charts for recording characteristics of operation, and set-up sheets.
In order to perform this job satisfactorily, applicant must be able to:
- Failure to comply with Work instructions or ISO Standards will result in excessive scarp or a low quality product and loss of materials. Should not leave machine until relieved by next operator
- Employee has up to ninety (90) days from date they start the job to demonstrate their ability to learn jobbed.
- Duties require setting up extrusion machine, according to set up sheets and Work instructions Manual, housekeeping
- Reading, writing, and simple math. A high school education desirable but not required
- Must be trained by a qualified instructor, follow Work procedures and understand ISO requirements
- Operating methods well defined in Work instructions.
- Operating procedures defined in Work instructions, operator must consider various factors in making decisions. Supervisor is readily available
- Practices clearly outlined. Initiative required in adjusting quality during process
- Fill out defect tag.
Physical requirements of this job:
- Undesirable conditions include: heat from extruders, minor burns, fumes, cuts and punctures, must stand on concrete floor
- Exceptional color perception. Good physical condition
- Physical effort exerted when moving compound boxes and colored fiber boxes. Otherwise light work sitting /standing
