What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laborer position at Superior Pipeline Services?
GENERAL PURPOSE:
These crews are responsible for going into residential and commercial areas working on underground utilities and working with their crew to complete tasks for the day. General laborers at Track Utilities are so important to the day to day operations and should be able to trouble shoot, manage challenging jobs and naturally share our core values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist crew leader in construction/ reconstruction and maintenance work
- Provides basic level laborer functions including hand digging with a shovel, setting up traffic control, learning equipment operations, placing fiber, loading materials, etc. on various safety sensitive utility construction sites
- Assist equipment operators, swamping, hand digging, locating underground obstructions
- Supports the setup and shut down of utility construction projects including traffic control in various conditions including highways, side streets, parking lots, downtown locations, etc.
- Work with specialized equipment including jackhammers, rotary drills, power actuated fasteners and other necessary tools
- Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials
- Work safely around backhoes, excavators, trenchers and dump truck
- Loads and unloads materials and equipment in from vehicles at construction yards and jobsites
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards
- Complete duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE:
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
- Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping and kneeling
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
- Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
- Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
- English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
- Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent desired
- 1 year of experience doing manual physical laborer in an outdoor setting required
- Experience working with underground utilities desired
- Valid State Driver License required / CDL A is a plus
- Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus
ADDITONAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
- Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) backgroud checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
