What are the responsibilities and job description for the Concrete Quality Control Specialist position at Superior Ready Mix?
The Concrete QC Specialist is responsible for the development, testing, and submittal of concrete mix designs. This includes concrete trial batching and testing in both the laboratory and the field. The QC Specialist should have a basic understanding of concrete constituents, chemical admixtures, concrete ready-mix operations, customer service skills, and note-taking skills for data collection. This position requires both work at a computer and a hands-on, team-based approach. The QC Specialist will report to the Regional Technical Services Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintain concrete submittal database including updating compressive strength test data and running appropriate calculations.
- Distribute concrete submittals efficiently and accurately.
- Project specification review.
- Prepare for and execute lab batching and testing in collaboration with technical team members and in accordance with applicable industry standards.
- Become familiar with industry standards and work to develop and implement procedures in the lab to be compliant with those standards.
- Maintain clean and safe laboratory environment.
- Visit concrete plants and job sites as needed to ensure quality standards
Qualifications - External
Additional Skills/Abilities:
- Communication skills (writing/verbal) Ability to summarize and explain methods and data legibly, accurately, and professionally.
- Computer skills Functional skills in MS Office products, especially Word and Excel.
- Mathematical skills - Ability to accurately record test measurements, understand the mathematical formulas associated with the tests, and calculate test results in accordance with test procedures.
- Physical Demands while performing the duties of this position: The Laboratory Technician must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be punctual, dependable, and have the ability to apply procedures.
- Working Conditions & Work Hours; The Representative must work in adverse weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures. During peak construction season, long hours, out of town travel, and working and/or traveling on weekends are to be expected.
- Possession of or willingness to obtain ACI Field Technician certification and ACI Laboratory Technician Level 1 certification.
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
- Negative drug and alcohol testing.
- Out of town travel when project work requires.
- Working overtime hours, weekends, non-standard hours, and some holidays.
- Ability to present a professional image representative of the organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in math and science, such as Civil Engineering, Concrete Industry Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar related field.
- Or a minimum of 2 years of technical work experience in the concrete industry.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
