Position Summary :
Superior Thread Rolling is looking for a Quality Engineer to join their team in Arleta, CA. Enjoy working on flight critical components used in the aerospace industry. Inspects product at various stages to determine, maintain and improve the quality and reliability of product. Works within Superior Thread Rolling Co. Quality Management System procedures and work instructions to maintain and improve inspection, calibration, customer returns, responds to and implements corrective action requests and is the Corrective Action Board (CAB) facilitator. Reviews and approves planning. Works closely with the Account Managers and Supply Chain on supplier approval and corrective actions. Performs other procurement quality activities as necessary. Owner of the non-conforming material control process system. Monitors and reports the Cost of Scrap (CoS). Support function during internal and external customer audits. Identifies and acts upon areas of needed improvement. Assist with all other quality functions through teamwork with other members of the quality and production.
Essential Job Functions :
Evaluate non-conforming material / product for and disposition appropriately including creating rework instructions and corrective actions IAW STR Control of Nonconforming Material. Assumes all responsibilities as the Non-conforming (NC) material (MRB) process owner coordinator.
Reviews and completes evaluation and disposition of customer returns
Responsible for the coordinating Corrective Action system. Answers all internal and customer corrective actions and manages our supplier corrective actions. Works with all departments to ensure communication of corrective / preventive action.
Customer and Supplier liaison and main point of contact for quality concerns
Contact the vendor / supplier prior to sending parts to determine the correct point of contact, build the relationship, and discuss :
o non-conformance, limitations of the process, inspection methods, potential root cause / corrective actions
o Liability and cost consideration
o rework / reprocessing required to make the parts conform
o inspection method and documentation that STR requires
o the turn-around time to re-process the non-conforming parts
Follow up with the supplier to ensure turn-around time that was committed to is on-track to complete on-time
Update Job Memos in ERP with this information to keep STR team informed of progress
Maintain various electronic quality logs and records. (NC Trends, CAB Log, COS Metrics)
Interfaces with Account Managers, Engineering, Production Control, Customer Quality Representatives, Suppliers and Supply Chain Management regularly.
Job Qualifications Required :
- 5 years minimum related aerospace machined product Quality Engineer experience, trade school, vocational education or apprenticeship.
- Must be experienced with 8D Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action and MFG process improvement / problem -solving skills.
- Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 GD&T principals and inspection methods.
- Extensive experience with all aspects of the metal manufacturing processes and special processing.
