The Machining & Fabrication Manager oversees all aspects of Superior Tire’s metalworking production centers including CNC machining, welding & fabrication, programming, tooling, and machine maintenance. This role is critical to Superior’s production capabilities and supplies components for our molding and assembly departments serving all of our business units.
The Machining & Fabrication Manager is expected to have an in-depth knowledge of machining and metalworking techniques and equipment and significant supervisory or management experience, which they can translate into effective leadership of our machining and fabrication operations to deliver parts on-quality, on-time, and on-cost.
Essential Job Functions:
Team Leadership:
- Supervise, train, develop, and motivate the Machining and Fabrication departments. Lead by example in implementing a culture focused on the Superior Production System principles.
Machining:
- Lead the machining department work centers, including CNC milling, CNC lathes, and manual machining, to efficient and timely production of high-quality parts by directing workflow, staffing, daily scheduling, and technical direction of the machining operations.
Fabrication:
- Lead the fabrication department work centers, including robotic and manual welding, plasma cutting, and saws, to efficient and timely production of high-quality parts by directing workflow, staffing, daily scheduling, and technical direction of the fabrication operations.
Programming, Tooling & Maintenance:
- Oversee the tooling, consumables, and equipment maintenance of our machining and fabrication equipment. This role will directly supervise the programming for CNC machining, as well as directly and indirectly supervise the tooling and fixturing required to make parts. Maintenance needs will be coordinated and managed in partnership with our maintenance department but the responsibility for maintaining well-running equipment and high productivity lies with the Machining and & Fabrication Manager.
New Items & Continuous Improvement
- The Machining & Fabrication Manager will work with the engineering, mold design, quality, and safety departments to ensure that new items are reviewed and appropriately considered with respect to machining and fabrication capabilities and techniques. This role ensures that correct capacities, costs, and safety protocols are in place for any new items or new product development efforts. In addition, this role strives to continually improve their operations to increase quality, reduce costs, and improve safety in keeping with the framework of the Superior Production System and the company’s goals.
Safety
- Lead by example and ensure that all work is done safely and according to best practices and recommendations as provided by our safety team. Alert our safety team and management immediately about any safety concerns, addressing them immediately where appropriate, and reporting any incidents in a timely manner from any of the supervised teams.
Quality
- Deliver, through leading by example and implementing the Superior Production System, high quality parts with a low non-conformance rate. Comply with required processes and procedures to stay compliant with our quality system and maintain our ISO registration. Assist with any QC required actions or investigations as needed to deal with defects or to comply with customer or quality standard requirements.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Maintain open communications with other company departments as they relate to the managed teams and projects. Communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both internally and externally. Plan projects using project management principles and tools for all approved project work and communicate with stakeholders, project members, and affected resources as needed for effective project completion.
Budget and Resource Management:
- Operate within budget constraints communicated by senior management. Use defined procedures for requisitioning human resources, materials, and capital equipment. Follow company policies on spending, travel, and human resources. Develop department budgets for capital spending on an annual basis for company planning purposes.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The Machining & Fabrication Manager has direct supervisory duties of all machining and fabrication personnel and serves indirectly as a coach and mentor for other positions in the company. Lead by example with respect to developing a culture based on the Superior Production System and developing a professional technical organization within Superior Tire & Rubber Corp.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Full Time Exempt
- Monday through Friday
- Weekends as needed.
- Required to work onsite 100% of the time.
Travel:
- This position may require occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or supplier locations.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a both manufacturing and office environments.

- Primarily manufacturing-based with some time spent in office or meeting environments.
