An internship with Superior Tube Products offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in engineering while working on impactful projects to support process improvement and operational efficiency. As part of the Materials Management Team, you will help to drive standardization and optimization across key areas. This internship will allow you to apply engineering principles in a real-world environment, contribute to team success, and gain valuable skills in process development, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.
Manufacturing Engineer : Opportunity to Enhance Materials Flow and Drive Continuous Improvement. As an intern, you will play a key role in supporting and improving materials flow within our operations, focusing on safety, efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement. This position provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Materials Management, Procurement, and Production, to optimize processes and contribute to the overall success of our manufacturing operations.
Responsibilities for this internship include but are not limited to :
1) Shop Floor Material and Warehouse Organization
Organize materials on the shop floor based on point-of-use and demand, and redesign warehouse layout for improved efficiency. Identify and segregate overstock materials, analyze inventory levels, and collect data to justify disposition decisions, such as reallocation, sale, or scrap. Utilize data-driven approaches, such as inventory turnover rates and usage trends, to optimize space utilization and ensure materials are readily accessible.
Goal : Enhance material flow, reduce excess inventory, and create a well-organized, efficient warehouse and shop floor environment.
2) Kitting Process Development for Welding Cells
Develop and implement a streamlined kitting process for welding cells to ensure materials are prepared and easily accessible for production. Collaborate with materials and production teams to refine workflows and address material flow challenges. This includes analyzing production data to standardize kitting quantities and ensure consistent availability of materials.
Goal : Improve production efficiency by reducing downtime caused by material unavailability and ensuring seamless operations in welding cells.
3) Research and Implementation of Automated Purchasing in Global Shop
Conduct research within Global Shop to explore and implement automated purchasing functions. Evaluate system capabilities, configure settings, and create guidelines for managing procurement workflows. Collaborate with the procurement team to test and validate the automation process, ensuring it aligns with company policies and demand patterns.
Goal : Streamline procurement processes, reduce manual workload, and ensure timely and accurate replenishment of materials.
Job Requirements and Preferences :
- Enrolled in an undergraduate degree program with at least one semester remaining after your internship
- Pursuing a degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Desire to pursue a career in manufacturing
