Shift: First Shift (Full-Time, 5x8 or alternating 3x12/4x12 schedule)
Reports To: V.P. of Operations
Supervises: Lead Operator, Maintenance Technicians , Extrusion Line Operators, and Support Staff
Job Summary:
The Operations Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in overseeing day-to-day production operations across the extrusion, automated saw, and pelletizing lines. This role is responsible for coordinating production schedules, supervising personnel, maintaining safety and quality standards, and driving operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of leading a growing team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Leadership & Supervision:
- Supervise daily operations across extrusion, automated cutting, and pelletizing lines to ensure schedule adherence and productivity.
- Manage and support the Lead Operator and production team, including assigning tasks, resolving issues, and ensuring adequate shift coverage.
- Monitor hourly/daily output, material usage, scrap levels, and downtime — escalating issues as needed.
- Ensure all personnel are properly trained and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Operational Planning & Scheduling:
- Collaborate with scheduling, logistics, and inventory teams to ensure efficient material flow and on-time order fulfillment.
- Plan labor needs to meet production targets, including overtime assignments or schedule adjustments.
- Participate in daily and weekly planning meetings to coordinate operations with other departments.
Safety & Compliance:
- Promote and enforce a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and LOTO procedures.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and lead incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Ensure team members use appropriate PPE and follow all safety protocols at all times.
Quality Assurance:
- Partner with Quality and Engineering to ensure all products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Drive first-pass yield and scrap reduction efforts through coaching and process discipline.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and provide on-the-floor guidance to maintain product consistency.
Maintenance Coordination:
- Coordinate with Maintenance Technicians and contractors to address unplanned downtime and execute preventive maintenance.
- Communicate equipment performance issues proactively and support root cause analysis with maintenance staff.
Training & Development:
- Onboard, train, and mentor new hires and cross-train existing employees across all production areas.
- Deliver regular feedback and performance reviews to direct reports.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Administrative & Reporting:
- Track attendance, timekeeping, and performance of hourly staff.
- Maintain shift reports, incident logs, and daily production metrics.
- Contribute to weekly and monthly KPI reviews and operational improvement planning.
Qualifications & Skills:
Required:
- 3 years of experience in a manufacturing supervisory or team lead role, preferably in plastics or extrusion.
- Proven ability to lead and develop production teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and workflow in extrusion or related industries.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations, quality systems, and Lean principles.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, production software, or ERP systems.
- Ability to work on the production floor for extended periods and lift 50 lbs as needed.
Preferred:
- Technical background in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial systems.
- Experience with automated saws, pelletizing lines, and/or auxiliary equipment (e.g., chillers, dryers, hoppers).
- Bachelor’s degree in technical field (engineering, materials science, etc.)
