Job Summary:
The Director of Operations Excellence is responsible for the effective execution of the company’s operations excellence programs across the total business unit. To accomplish those goals, this leadership role ensures that the regional and branch leadership teams are provided with the tools, resources, infrastructure, and guidance needed to meet and exceed both customer and internal expectations, with an emphasis on continuous improvement, standard work, inventory control, quality assurance, facilities management, safety, and warehouse management systems deployment. In this position, you will report to the Vice President of North American Operations.
We are seeking a talented Director of Operations Excellence to join our team. The Director of Operations Excellence is responsible for the following:
Responsibilities:
Continuous Improvement (CI):
- In partnership with our CI Manager and other internal and external stakeholders, you will be the owner of our CI process for both internal operations and customer-facing programs
- Ensure the development, deployment, stabilization, and regular updating of standard work across all operations functions to ensure best in class performance.
- Work with operations leadership to develop and review staffing models based on productivity standards and associated improvements/investments to ensure a proper balance of labor investment, quality results, and on-time fulfillment.
- Responsible for development and oversight of CI training programs to expand the understanding of CI principles among internal employees.
- Oversee the development and ongoing use of Key Performance Indicators to allow leaders to understand operational performance, existing and potential performance gaps, and assist leaders with development and execution of ‘get better’ projects to improve performance.
- Work with leadership at all levels to establish, inspect and reinforce the company’s 7S standards in all company facilities and on-site programs.
Network Design & Expansion:
- Oversee the company’s network design activities to ensure maximization of return on investment.
- Function as the oversight authority on all operational expansion projects throughout the design-build-launch process.
Safety:
- Work with the Program Manager for Facilities & Fleet to ensure all branches remain in compliance with local city, state, and federal safety regulations.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and direction of programs to ensure the safety of all company personnel to meet company standards and applicable federal regulations.
- Actively promote safety awareness and culture; ensures the continued effectiveness of company safety programs.
- Maintain appropriate levels of safety certifications and continue education to remain aware of important changes in safety regulations.
Facilities & Fleet:
- Work with the Program Manager for Facilities & Fleet to oversee real estate operations, to include oversight of retained real estate partners.
- Oversee execution of facilities maintenance, repair, and investment projects, to include ensuring capital expense requests are thorough and provide the best possible return on investment.
- Oversee execution of the company’s equipment fleet strategy to ensure safe and economical use of all equipment and ensure the timely maintenance and repair of company assets.
- Actively participate in the Park Ohio Environment and Social Governance Council to ensure the company’s sustainability efforts are in alignment with global initiatives.
Inventory Control & Quality Assurance (ICQA):
- Work with the Program Manager for ICQA to effectively execute programs to ensure inventory control and quality assurance in all operations facilities and processes.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and direction of layered audit, process audit, leadership audit, and annual facility audit programs.
- In partnership with the Director of Logistics, spearhead the function’s efforts to manage and reduce in-transit damage and maximize recovery on freight claims
- Actively promote safety awareness and culture; ensures the continued effectiveness of company safety programs.
Warehouse Management, ERP, & CRM Systems:
- Work with the Program Manager for Fulfillment Systems and Training Specialists to ensure all operations facilities and programs are properly utilizing company systems.
- Oversee the development, implementation, and direction of programs to ensure effective training of all company personnel to meet company standards regarding systems usage.
- Partner with Information Technology and Sales Operations resources to recommend, explore, and develop system enhancement to improve productivity and value of systems usage.
Personnel:
- Interview, hire, train, coach, and mentor direct reports with continuous motivation and professional development.
- Provide yearly performance appraisals to direct reports by conducting face-to-face meetings to review performance objectives and progress throughout the year.
Financial Acumen:
- Able to review, fully understand and forecast using monthly financial statements which include sales forecasting, manning, expenses, and A/P reporting.
- Work with other senior operations leadership to holds site and branch leaders accountable for their financial results and empowers them to improve through teaching/coaching.
Policies and Procedures:
- Comply with the set policies & procedures that have been established by Supply Technologies and ParkOhio.
- Detailed-oriented and ensures compliance with set due dates and periodic reporting. - Knowledge of and drives compliance with ISO standards, where applicable.
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in branch or distribution operations.
- Project Management experience is required.
- Fastener knowledge is preferred.
- Travel up to 50%, target 10-15%.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Proven leadership skills. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required. Power BI and Smart Sheet experience preferred
