Job Posting: Youth Support Partner
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Youth Partner to support children, adolescents, and transition-age youth through mentorship and peer support. The ideal candidate will bring lived experience and a passion for guiding youth through mental health or substance use challenges.
Minimum Requirements:
- Lived Experience: Personal experience with mental health or substance use challenges as an adolescent (under age 21).
- System Navigation Experience: Familiarity with navigating child and family-serving systems (e.g., mental health, education, child welfare, juvenile justice).
- Education & Experience: MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS
- 1. Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited university and one year of experience working with the target population; OR
- 2. Associate degree in a human services field from an accredited school and one year of experience working with children/adolescents/transition-age youth; OR
- 3. High school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience working with children/adolescents/transition-age youth.
- Age Requirement: Must be over 21 years of age.
- Peer Support Certification: Certification in Peer Support is strongly preferred.
- Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check that presents no health or safety risks to participants.
- NC Health Care Abuse Registry: Must not be listed in the registry.
- Driver’s License & Insurance: Valid driver’s license, reliable automobile, and proof of auto insurance required.
- High Fidelity Wraparound (HFW) Teams: If part of a HFW Team, the Youth Partner must be certified in Youth Peer Support in High Fidelity HFW or actively working toward certification within one year of hire.

Youth Partner – Job Duties
The Youth Partner plays a vital role in empowering young people to achieve their goals, strengthen life skills, and build meaningful connections within their community. Key responsibilities include:
- Relationship Building:
- Foster trust, respect, and collaboration with youth, family members, natural supports, community partners, and key stakeholders.
- Help bridge relationships between the youth and others, including family members, teachers, employers, and friends.
- Youth-Centered Planning:
- Develop a strong understanding of the young person’s desires, goals, interests, and strengths.
- Assist the youth in identifying personal goals and creating an action plan with clear steps to achieve them.
- Navigation & Advocacy:
- Guide the youth in navigating systems across various domains (e.g., education, employment, healthcare) while focusing on personal well-being and community functioning.
- Advocate for the youth’s needs and support their self-advocacy skills.
- Skill Development:
- Promote social responsibility and accountability by teaching problem-solving and decision-making skills essential for managing daily life.
- Enhance social and life skills, helping the youth become competent and confident in areas vital to achieving their goals.
- Support Network Building:
- Assist the youth in developing a strong support system that fosters identity, independence, and long-term success.
- Encourage positive peer relationships and connections with community resources.
- Empowerment & Self-Sufficiency:
- Guide the youth toward greater self-sufficiency, building confidence, resilience, and self-determination.
- Encourage personal growth and the development of skills that support long-term well-being and community engagement.
