What are the responsibilities and job description for the DJ & Music Production Tutors position at Support Women DJs?
Support Women DJs is a community-driven initiative working to increase visibility, opportunity, and equity for underrepresented DJs. Through events, residencies, and educational programs, we aim to reshape the electronic music industry with more inclusive lineups and accessible platforms for femme and nonbinary talent.
Role OverviewAs a DJ Tutor, you will provide hands-on guidance to aspiring DJs, helping them build skills and confidence across all aspects of DJing. Our tutors foster an environment of creativity, empowerment, and encouragement, teaching students both the technical craft and the cultural dynamics of electronic music. You’ll offer everything from basic introductions to equipment for beginners to advanced mixing techniques and performance strategies for more experienced students.
Responsibilities- Lead one-on-one or small group DJ lessons in person at our Bushwick studio.
- Teach technical skills such as beatmatching, EQ control, mixing, and effects.
- Help students develop their own unique sound and DJ identity.
- Provide mentorship and career advice, including tips on branding, networking, and building a set.
- Offer feedback on practice sets and support students in preparing for live performances.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest DJ equipment and industry trends.
- Cultivate a positive, supportive learning environment aligned with the mission of Support Women DJs.
- 1 years of DJing experience in live settings (clubs, festivals, radio, etc.).
- Proficiency with industry-standard equipment such as Pioneer CDJs, Rekordbox, Serato, or Traktor.
- Knowledge of different genres of electronic music (techno, house, drum & bass, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal skills with a passion for teaching and mentoring.
- Alignment with the mission of empowering femme and nonbinary talent in the music industry.
- Previous experience in teaching, workshops, or coaching is a plus but not required.
- Flexibility to teach in evenings or weekends based on student availability.
- Access to a network of artists, events, and industry connections.
