Job Duties

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages and directs the activities assigned staff; coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns task and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities; directs the recruitment and selection of staff; undertakes disciplinary actions as required; conducts performance evaluations; ensures appropriate scheduling of staff to ensure proper operational coverage.
- Develops and implements goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for the office; prepares and administers the budget for the court.
- Ensures the accuracy of all court records and documents; provides for secure storage and appropriate access.
- Monitors and coordinates case processing to ensure the most effective and efficient handling of cases.
- Answers inquires, provides information, and resolves complaints from judges, attorneys, other State and County staff and the public regarding assigned functions and activities, which often require the use of judgement and the interpretation of policies, rules, and procedures.
- Prepares and administers operational, budget, and other statistical data and information, maintains various records, and prepares special and periodic reports.
- Develops, administers, and monitors the Court’s budget; procures supplies and materials; ensures proper reporting and recordkeeping
- Coordinates records management and storage, word processing, legal clerical processing, and related activities.
- Arranges for maintenance, repair and purchase of equipment and supplies.
- Oversees the maintenance of accurate records, including the automation of the calendaring and record keeping systems; maintains accurate financial records.
- Represents the Court, State and county with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
- Maintains a positive work atmosphere and communicates in a manner that is compatible with customers, clients, judges, supervisors, and staff.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required: a college degree in public administration or a related field, or experience in the court system is preferred. Experience at the supervisory or management level in a court, business or office setting is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in public relations, human resources, recruitment, management, training and evaluation, computerized case management and work processing, and regulatory and statutory compliance are preferred. The successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in areas of responsibility listed above as well as automated financial and records management systems, personal computers, and software applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Experience is highly recommended. All supervisory positions are required to earn a minimum of 12 CLE credits annually. Training is offered at regional and statewide conferences through the Supreme Court of Virginia or through other qualifying courses.
