Job Duties

Under the general supervision of the IT Projects Manager, this position provides IT support at various levels, including front-line technical support of software and hardware; testing, installation and configuration of new and updated software and hardware; maintenance and support of the Fairfax County GDC website and other modes of public communication; assisting with the planning and implementation of new technology initiatives; and performance of related work as assigned by management.

All employees receive a 15% county salary supplement in addition to the state salary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities – The IT Analyst backs up and assists the IT Manager for a large, high-volume, limited jurisdiction state court. This position assists court employees with the routine use of applications; troubleshoots network, application, and hardware problems; provides technology support in courtrooms; assists with maintaining GDC’s suite of SharePoint sites and other Microsoft 365 applications; assists in the planning and implementation of new hardware and software rollouts and other IT projects; and assists in the design and maintenance of GDC’s website and other public communication methods.

This position works very closely with both Fairfax County and State IT departments. The Court uses a combination of hardware and software governed by multiple overlapping departments, and this position serves as a liaison between the appropriate administrators and technicians in those departments.

Other duties include setup and onboarding of new user accounts; notifying users of unanticipated downtime and coordinating the resolution of downtime with appropriate agencies; monitoring and enforcing appropriate security policies; assisting users of public terminals; tracking inventory of hardware and peripherals; and testing of pilot programs or new versions of applications to improve the function of the Court. This position is also a fully deputized Deputy Clerk and as such may be called to assist the IT Manager or other supervisors with general court projects on occasion. This position may be required to work during non-traditional business hours on occasion.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, experience, certification, and/or training equivalent to the following: graduation from an accredited two-year college with an associate’s degree in IT or related field (degree preferred, not required) and/or two years of related professional work experience in such areas as business, court, or public administration. Ability to communicate technical ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to perform personal computer and network troubleshooting, both on

software and hardware. Proficiency in the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems and PC applications, such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint required. Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications –

  • 2 years or more of customer service experience

  • Prior employment with a state court or agency

  • Experience with SharePoint

  • Large office experience

  • IT inventory management experience

  • IT project management experience

  • Website management using a Content Management System (CMS)

Special Requirements—Applicants must pass a criminal background check in order to be considered for employment.

Physical Requirements – Lifting and bending to install, remove and repair equipment.
