Job purpose
The Business Development Manager is a customer-focused role that is responsible for establishing and maintaining business relationships with decision makers with local, regional, and national footprints as well as recruiting and training Value Added Resellers/Distributors. The ideal candidate will have the confidence and discipline to cold-call potential customers as well as the consultative sales skills to engage door manufacturers to ensure that the proposed product meets or exceeds the required specifications and/or certifications. He or She will consult and uncover our customer’s business issues and will present the most effective Surelock McGill and its affiliate companies’ products as a solution to those issues.
Duties and responsibilities
- Establish and maintains high-level relationships with business decision makers.
- Secures new accounts while managing and growing sales revenue of existing key accounts.
- Develop and execute product focused and industry specific training curriculum.
- Prepare proposals and contracts to present to decision makers.
- Process orders by specifying the best product available, quoting prices, delivery specifications and payment terms.
- Conduct sales calls to follow-up on all accounts to ensure satisfaction with all agreements.
- Demonstrate superior knowledge and expertise of all aspects of high security door hardware and accessories.
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans to support local business goals.
- Forecast activities, set performance goals accordingly, and report on status frequently.
- Meet and exceed assigned performance goals.
- Frequent overnight travel required by air and/or automobile. Use of personal automobile or rental car, whichever makes the most financial sense for the company. Personal miles reimbursed at current IRS allowable rate.
- Marketing support:
- Tradeshow identification, booking and logistics
- Creation and editing of printed and digital messaging
- Technical support:
- Ability to diagnose product installation and operational issues and provide real time support to OEMs, distributors, and end users.
- Issue Returned Goods Authorizations and process returns and replacement products in a timely manner

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver’s license, passport, and current automobile insurance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from a four year college or university; or 5-7 years outside sales experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong organizational skills and efficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS AND COMMUNCATION SKILLS Ability to read, write, follow directions, and possess above average listening skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from all levels within an organization. Strong interpersonal skills and a sensitivity to understand customer needs and business issues. Excellent telephone and electronic communication skills required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, discounts, percentages and margins, as well as the ability to interpret and present this information in written or graphical formats.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a selection of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
