The Senior Corporate Planning Analyst plays a critical role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing in-depth analysis, forecasting and planning for the company’s oil and gas operations. This role will be responsible for corporate modeling, variance analysis, budgets and forecasts, and business analysis to support the organization and influence decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the strategic planning process by being responsible for corporate modeling for annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
- Coordinate with Business Development to screen possible E&P acquisition transactions by preparing and evaluating pro forma financial information and related capital market activity
- Monitor, report, analyze, and explain actual and forecasted performance versus budgets, forecasts, and other benchmarks
- Work with operations to understand the key variances of production, lease operating expenses, and capital expenses relative to budgets/forecasts
- Work with accounting, planning, and treasury to understand and explain the key financial variances
- Analyze and report company performance relative to peers and competitors
- Support management in performing ad-hoc analysis in business-critical issues
- Assist in planning and developing the annual budget and long-range plan
- Lead corporate level economic look back of capital investment to help management understand development program return
- Assist with investor relations activities including maintaining investor presentations, scriptwriting, etc.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Monitor commodity price trends and assess their impact on financial planning and profitability
- Demonstrated high level of analytical ability is required due to the complexity of the analysis required to prepare and provide recommendations to management for establishing and achieving objectives, and to assess alternatives and overall financial performance to suggest appropriate courses of action.
- Proven ability to communicate and present complex concepts (verbally and written) in an effective manner to leaders up to the Executive level, and functional teams.
- Advanced Excel modeling skills & highly proficient in PowerPoint.
- Deep understanding of the oil and gas value chain and operations
- Working knowledge of cost accounting, budgeting, and financial accounting principles.
- Advanced level communication skills is required to interact with all levels of management, to lead teams and to direct the work of others.
- A substantial level of innovation is required to develop management tools, models, systems, and processes.
- Self-starter with a track record of performance and proven ability to deliver quality results under significant time pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to quickly build credibility, respect, and rapport.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics or other related field of study
- 7 years of progressive experience in oil and gas industry or energy investment banking
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact, connect and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and disciplines including engineering, geosciences, business development, treasury, and senior leadership.
- Well-developed analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills and experience with decision analysis
- Strong financial and commercial acumen expertise with the ability to quickly grasp business context to formulate insights for decision making and optimization
- Proven ability to utilize technical capabilities and systems to perform detailed analysis in combination with forward looking perspective
- 5 years of experience performing financial modeling and economic evaluations in upstream oil and gas environment
- Exposure and experience with financing structures such as reserved based lending, debt offerings, acquisition financing, etc.
- Broad business knowledge of E&P industry while keeping up with current trends and operations in the space of partnering with banks, capital markets and investor conference call scripts
