Surgeons Choice Medical Center is a patient centered health care facility and physician owned destination of care focusing on all hand, joint, orthopedic and sports medicine. In 2004, in an ambitious push to bring hospitality back to the hospital, a small group of top Metro-Detroit surgeons decided to create their own surgical hospital; one that provided patients with the best possible care in a small, easy-to-manage environment that truly embraces the best patient experience. We have since become the premier center of choice with 30 surgical beds, 26 rehabilitation beds, and 6 operating rooms.
Surgeons Choice Medical Center has an exciting opportunity for a PACU Support Technician. An ideal candidate has a passion to serve people to improve their quality of life and empower them on their health journey.
Role/Position Definition: Responsible for providing patient care during pre-operative/post-operative phases. Provides continuous patient surveillance for early recognition and immediate emergency treatment of medical or surgical complications that may arise in any perioperative patient.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
A. Education/Experience
a) 3 years of experience providing care in a hospital/surgical setting required.
b) 5 years of field experience or previous hospital experience in an emergency service/intensive care unit setting preferred.
B. Licensure/Certification
a) Current unrestricted Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician license from the State of Michigan preferred.
b) Current unrestricted Anesthesia Technologist certification preferred.
c) Current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers, from the American Heart Association required.
d) Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required from American Heart Association.
C. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A. Knowledge of ACLS protocols in code situations, medications, pain management, and performance of patient assessments.
B. Requires immediate judgment and response; occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
C. Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care assessment activities.
D. Requires effective listening and language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication.
E. Must possess customer service skills and be able to demonstrate at all times.
F. Must be able to multi-task.
G. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs.
H. Ability to recognize and process confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Performs only those techniques within scope of license or validated skills.
• Under close supervision of the Registered Nurse, and according to established policies and procedures, assists nursing staff in providing patient care to facilitate the overall care of the patient preoperatively and postoperatively.
• Assists with 12-lead EKGs, blood draws, and IV insertions.
• Accurately measures and records temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure, pulse oximetry, oral intake and outputs. Notifies nurses of any abnormal findings.
• Assist anesthesia provider with patient preparation of regional block including positioning, applying monitors and oxygen, gathering all necessary equipment, and pushing medications under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist.
• Responsible for stocking surgical areas.
• Assists with discharge process i.e., remove IVs, transportation of patient to floor or vehicle.
• Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled
• Observes and reports to nurses, physicians, and family members the patient’s condition.
• Reports reactions to drugs or treatment to the Registered Nurse.
• Completes documentation and records according to department policy.
• Demonstrates customer friendly attitude with all patients, co-workers, vendors and guests.
