Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Surgical Services Manager and at the direction of Registered Nurses; the CNA supports the care of surgical patients.
Hours:
- .75 FTE - 30 Hours Per Week
- Monday through Friday
- Day shift
- 6 hour shifts
Essential Job Functions:
• Transports patients and equipment, assists with preparation of pre-op/PACU/OR, and properly cleaning of any area of the facility according to policy and procedures
• Demonstrates good knowledge of principles and practices of aseptic technique, handling of specimens and biohazard material, and universal precautions
• Ability to be self-directed; demonstrates accountability, professionalism, and receptiveness to change; seeks guidance, direction, and assistance when needed
• Fosters an attitude of teamwork and willingness to assist others in performing other job duties as requested
• Sets priorities, responds timely to issues which require a decision, and ensures desired results are achieved by means of consistent follow through
• Participates in the turnover of cases, preparing patients for admission and discharge.
• Demonstrates skills as a team player. Assist others in preparation of the clinical areas and participating in patient care as directed
• Provides safe patient transfers
• Protects patients’ sensitivities and the right to privacy
• Demonstrates proper technique with pre-operative scrubs and clipping of hair as requested
• Accurately checks patient vital signs and height and weight and reports them to the RN in a timely manner as requested by RN
• Able to remove IV catheters as requested by RN
• Assists with maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment, adheres to all safety and infection control requirements
• Participates in quality improvement activities as requested
• Demonstrates strong communication skills with patients, families, and staff
• Orders supplies and restocks the unit as needed
• Assists with setting up necessary patient appointments, labs, tests, or transfers as ordered by the physician
• Preparation, compilation and maintenance of patient records
• Greets new patients and or visitors and directs them to the appropriate resource
• Regular and prompt work-site attendance
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• Current CNA licensure in the State of Wisconsin
• BLS certification is required upon hire
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others
• Demonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care and to meet documentation standards
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancement
