Key Responsibilities
Records Management
- Organizing, updating, and maintaining both electronic and physical medical records.
- Ensuring records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
Patient Data Handling
- Inputting patient information into electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Retrieving records for medical professionals and authorized personnel upon request.
Compliance and Confidentiality
- Adhering to healthcare regulations, such as HIPAA, to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Ensuring all records meet legal, ethical, and organizational standard
Insurance Verification:
Confirm patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility for scheduled procedures or services.
Pre-Authorization: Obtain required pre-certifications or authorizations for treatments, surgeries, or diagnostic services.
Documentation: Accurately record insurance details, verification outcomes, and authorization numbers in the patient management system.
Patient Communication: Notify patients of their financial responsibility, including co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs, prior to their appointment.
Coordination: Collaborate with medical staff, billing teams, and insurance companies to resolve coverage issues or discrepancies.
Compliance: Stay updated on insurance policies, guidelines, and regulatory changes to ensure compliance and accurate processing.
Problem Resolution: Address and resolve insurance-related issues promptly to minimize billing delays.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); associate degree in healthcare administration or related field (preferred).
- Prior experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or a related healthcare role (1–3 years preferred).
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans, policies, and terminology (e.g., HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medicaid).
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently.
