Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, this position acts as first assistant is surgery, for those procedures, which the RNFA is qualified and approved, in the immediate presence and direction of an approved supervising physician.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during an operation, assists the surgeon with tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, stopping bleeding, closing the incision, among other technical tasks
- Surgical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Positioning the patient for surgery and aiding with draping, clearing the area where the surgeon will operate and holding open incisions by using tissue retractors, sponges, or operating suction or irrigation equipment, selecting and passing instruments and supplies during an operation, stopping bleeding by sponging, clamping, tying, or cauterizing vessels, or suturing tissue layers as directed by the surgeon, applying dressings to surgical wounds, counting sponges, needles, and other materials before and after the operation, closing the incision at the end of the procedure
Training, Education, and Experience:
- Completion of an approved RN First Assistant Training Program
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a perioperative nurse
- ACLS, PALS, BLS certification from American Heart Association required
- Professional malpractice insurance
