Overview
We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled, detail-oriented and organized Surgical Coordinator to join our healthcare team at Surgical Associates Chartered. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in managing the surgical scheduling process, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and efficiently. This position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in medical scheduling, and a thorough understanding of health information management practices.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, diagnostic testing and pre-operative appointments.
- Ensure efficiency of procedure schedule for the on-site procedure lab.
- Communicate with patients to confirm procedure appointments, provide pre-operative instructions and schedule post-operative follow-up appointments.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures by obtaining necessary pre-operative notes, EKGs, lab work and any other needed documentation.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to gather necessary patient information and ensure all pre-operative requirements are met.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, surgeons, and other medical staff to facilitate smooth communication throughout the surgical process.
- Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including office duties related to patient care.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with ensuring prior authorization is obtained from insurance companies when required.
- Responsible for leading the medical records department.
- Set up transportation for patients as needed for surgical procedures.
Requirements
- Proficiency in typing for efficient data entry.
- Experience in surgical scheduling or a similar healthcare-related role is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in documentation.
- Proficient in medical record systems and patient management software.
- Experience at local hospitals such as White Oak Adventist Hospital, Prince George's Hospital Center, and Doctors Community Hospital is highly desirable.
