JOB SUMMARY
The Event Staff is responsible for performing the day-to-day operations and execution of the private event space of Scheid Hall and the outdoor Beer Garden Tent in the warmer months. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality and providing exceptional guest service in a banquet setting. Tasks include, but are not limited to: set up and break down of events, bartending, banquet service, ensuring guests’ needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is quick and efficient, and the Events Banquet Captain with other duties as assigned.
The salary for this position is $15.97/hr. plus tips. It is eligible for Sick Time and Beer Hall discounts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Welcome guests quickly, say hi and let them know who you are. Be responsive and helpful. If you can’t help them right away – alert someone who can. If you can’t answer a question – find someone who can.
- Be comfortable with pairing and describing details of our beer, from what menu items would be complementary to the ABV to the hops and malts used, to the history of the beer and/or style.
- Your attitude is everything, it can make or break a shift or fellow employees as well as the experience for the customer.
- Maintain a spotless, organized and sanitized work environment no matter what the volume.
- Exceptional and consistent beer-pouring skills to ensure maximum profit margins.
- Providing efficient food service to event guests in accordance with Surly Event Standards.
- Be on time, alert, clean and ready for your shift.
- Able to talk about the history of Surly, the MSP Facility, and the surrounding area with reasonable knowledge.
- Pay attention and adhere to TIPS principles.
- Bring potentially systematic problems that require immediate action to the attention of mgmt.
- If you see something, do something about it. Don’t push things off to tomorrow if we can set ourselves up for today.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Events Banquet Captain
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of food handling, food preparations, bartending and guest relations.
- Recognizes that this role provides the highest level of service and has an “above and beyond” approach
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Toast is a plus
- High energy, extroverted, conversational
- Quick thinking
- Flexibility with work hours as the work demands it and able to work also weekends. Start/end time can range from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. in any given week.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and teams
- Adaptability – every day is a different day!
- One to three years of related banquet experience or hospitality experience.
- Hardworking and willing to go above and beyond expectations for every event.
- TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) certification strongly preferred.
- Hotschedules experience a plus
- Full of fresh ideas about possible events and ways to approach complex/complicated guest requests.
