Surly Brewing doesn't just brew awesome beer, we also sell some killer merchandise! Surly Brewing Co. is seeking a part-time Retail Associate to join our team in Minneapolis, MN. This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of the retail plan. The successful execution of these responsibilities requires the ability to be an effective steward of the brand, to demonstrate a mastery of customer service, to have a working knowledge of and ability to cover all facets of the retail team, and the drive to make the guest experience a kickass one.
**Please note - this position will require weekend availability!
The pay rate for this position is $18.00/hr. The position is eligible for Sick time and Beer Hall discounts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures that each guest receives outstanding service by providing a friendly, clean, and organized environment.
- Sets the pace on the retail floor and creates a positive team environment. Works courteously and professionally with co-workers and customers. Respects all Surly staff and understands that no one person is more important than another.
- Maintains outstanding store standards, solid product knowledge (including retail products and beverages), and all other components of customer service. A thirst for learning about the craft beer industry locally and beyond is a definite plus.
- Calmly and tactfully manages and resolves difficult situations, especially involving customers.
- Opens and/or closes the store. Balances registers according to accounting and security procedures. Processes information and merchandise through computer system and POS register system.
- Ensures appropriate merchandise stock levels, presentations, and signage through execution of merchandising plans and rotation of garments.
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Surly’s policies and applicable laws.
- Provides coverage and support for all parts of retail team, including company store, warehouse, and special events.
- Brings potentially systemic problems that require immediate action to the attention of the Retail Store Manager and Retail Director.
- Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Retail Store Manager and Retail Director.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Weekend availability required.
- Ability to work varied hours/days, including opening and closing of the store. Ensures high customer service standards by supporting team during peak periods or when scheduling conflicts arise. Picks up shifts as needed.
- Prior retail experience or training preferred.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Knowledge of equipment and software including, but not limited to: Point of Sale (POS) programs, phone systems, printers/fax machines, spreadsheets, word processing, and inventory programs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- On your feet for majority of shift.
- Able to perform physical work in a loud environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds
