Job Description:
- Administrative Functions Consult with nursing department staff and supervisors concerning the staffing/scheduling needs to assist in eliminating/correcting problem areas and/or improving services.
- Coordinate appropriate coverage for “call-outs” for each scheduled shift in a timely fashion and alert the nursing supervisor regarding vacant slots which have not been filled for upcoming shifts.
- Designate a licensed nurse to serve as a Charge Nurse/Nurse Supervisor on each shift.
- Determine a level of sufficient staff based on diseases, conditions, physical function or cognitive limitations of the resident population.
- Develop a workforce strategy which provides for sufficient numbers of licensed nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to meet the individualized needs of residents and to comply with state staffing requirements.
- Ensure the facility has sufficient staff with the appropriate competencies and skill sets to provide nursing and related services to assure resident safety.
- Ensure the schedule considers the number, acuity and diagnoses of the facility resident population in accordance with the facility assessment.
- Ensure the workload or assignments of the nursing staff allow for time to participate in team meetings, care plan meetings, attend training, spend time caring for residents and time for breaks (including meal breaks). √ Work with the Director of Human Resources and the Director of Nursing when scheduling modified work duty employees in accordance with work restrictions and facility policies.
- Complete and post work sheets/time schedules.
- Complete monthly nursing schedule coordinating requests to ensure appropriate coverage of units.
- Collaborate with the Infection Preventionist regarding infection prevention and control plan and contingency staffing plans in the event of infectious communicable disease outbreaks (i.e., influenza, etc.).
