Job Title: Senior Power Electronics Engineer
Job Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Power Electronics Engineer to oversee the design, development, and support of complex electronic power systems for the Space and defense, aerospace and military sector. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power supply design, analog electronics, and power electronics for harsh environments. The role requires hands-on experience and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.
Salary Range: $160,000 - $210,000
Key Responsibilities:
- Hardware Design and Development: Lead the design and development of advanced electronic systems, including power converters, filters, and logic circuits.
- Power Supply Design: Design and prototype DC-DC converters and other power supply systems ranging from 200V to 600V input and 1.5V to 28V output, with up to 1200W output power.
- Simulation and Analysis: Perform simulations using LTSPICE and conduct analyses such as Worst Case Analysis, Electrical Stress & Derating Analysis, and Failure Mode Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
- PCB Design: Complete printed wiring board placements and routing, and conduct schematic capture using OrCAD and PCB design in PADS.
- Component Selection: Select and balance components for cost, efficiency, and packaging.
- Troubleshooting: Lead troubleshooting efforts for production flight hardware and resolve EMI/RFI issues in aircraft and defense vehicle equipment.
- Technical Studies: Conduct project planning, requirements definition, concept development, and technical trade studies for power converters and isolators.
- Customer Interaction: Present electrical designs during customer-facing reviews and provide technical support to customers.
- Production Support: Develop production assembly instructions, processes, and fixtures, and collaborate with test engineering for design for test (DFT) and design for manufacturing (DFM).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Over 10 years of related experience in designing ruggedized, highly-reliable electromechanical systems for harsh environments.
- Expertise in power supply design, analog electronics, and product packaging.
- Proficiency in simulation tools such as LTSPICE, and design tools like OrCAD and PADS.
- Strong understanding of industry standards such as MIL-STD and IPC Class 3 high-reliability standards.
- Experience in developing transformers, inductors, and RF systems.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in software tools such as Altium, ORCAD, LTSpice, TINA, HP-ADS, MathCAD, and Excel.
- Familiarity with IPC Class 3 high-reliability standards preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with high-speed digital and analog circuit designs.
- Familiarity with designing power converters for mission-critical applications.
- Ability to conduct simulations and troubleshoot complex power supply issues.
