Job Summary:
We are seeking an Aerial Sensor Operator, responsible for managing, operating, and maintaining remote sensing systems aboard aircraft for geospatial, surveying, or environmental monitoring missions. This includes LiDAR, photogrammetry, thermal imaging, and multispectral/hyperspectral sensors. The operator ensures successful data acquisition through flight planning, in-flight operations, and data management.
- Pre-Flight Planning
- Coordinate with project managers and pilots to plan flight missions according to project specifications, weather, airspace restrictions, and client needs.
Sensor Operation
- Operate and monitor aerial sensors during flight using mission control software.
- Adjust sensor parameters in real-time to respond to environmental conditions or target area changes.
- Monitor aircraft position and sensor alignment to ensure complete data capture.
Post-Flight Duties
- Verify data completeness and integrity after each mission.
- Perform initial data processing, including downloading, organizing, and backing up raw datasets.
- Report equipment malfunctions and assist in troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs of aerial sensors and support equipment.
- Maintain equipment logs, calibration records, and operational documentation.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Work closely with pilots, GIS analysts, survey teams, and project leads.
- Provide accurate documentation of flight missions and technical feedback for continual process improvement.
- Configure sensors and calibrate equipment prior to deployment.
- Review mission plans, maps, and GPS flight paths to ensure proper coverage and data integrity.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to travel frequently, sometimes on short notice.
- Comfortable working in an aircraft environment for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check and/or drug screening.
