This is a temporary full-time position not to exceed six months.
This is a co-operative position to introduce recent college graduates and military members transitioning to employment with airport operations at a public use airport. Under the direction of the Airport Operations Manager, the person in this position will be responsible for assisting with FAA & TSA regulations concerning airfield and airport security operations and airport safety conditions; acts as liaison with airlines and tenants; and performs customer service duties as assigned for Harrisburg International Airport, a commercial service small hub airport that serves approximately 1.4 million passengers annually, and three general aviation airports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists with airfield, construction site, and similar inspection processes.
- Conducts and records terminal, parking, construction site, and perimeter inspections daily or as conditions necessitate to ensure compliance with FAA & TSA regulations.
- Monitors operating conditions of the airport. Assists with NOTAM process with an Airport Operations Specialist.
- Initiates corrective action for problems identified by Airport Operations.
- Monitors overall security posture of the airport to include gates, locks, and badges. Completes daily badge checks.
- Participates in tabletop emergency drills with Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and other emergency personnel.
- Participates in safety coordination meetings with tenants and contractors for airside construction projects.
- Assists with and / or monitors wildlife activity on the airport, responding with appropriate action, as necessary.
- Enforces airport ordinances and FAA / TSA regulations applicable to airport users, tenants, contractors, and the general public.
- Performs complementary customer service functions consistent with airport customer service standards.
- Completes research projects and updates manuals using appropriate FAA advisory circulars.
- Drives in the movement and non-movement areas of the Airport. May drive in the movement areas of the Airport with successful completion of the AOA Driver Training Program.
- Reviews applicable manuals related to Airport Operations and security.
- Performs any other duty or assignment delegated by proper authority.

Education and Experience :
Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions :
A valid driver’s license and a demonstrated good driving record, ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date. Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation in order to be issued Airport Identification Badge.
Cognitive Tasks :
Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions in English. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Must effectively set priorities. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent.
Physical Demands and Requirements :
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, and must be able to distinguish full visual color spectrum. Must be able to operate wildlife control / harassment devises. Must also be able to operate airport radios.
Work Environment :
While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme outside weather conditions, fumes, and airborne particles. The employees will work in high stress situations that might be life threatening. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud. Must be able to work as a team as well as individually. Employee may be required to work regular extended continuous work schedules as set by SARAA.
Language and Communications Skills :
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, charts and graphs, blueprints, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals is required. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, shift personnel, clients, customers, and the general public. Regularly communicates with supervisors, co-workers, all other departments including police, fire and maintenance as well as the Air Traffic Control tower, FAA, contractors, and customers.
Mathematical Skills :
Above average knowledge of basic math concepts. Must be able to calculate averages and mathematical conversions (ex : lbs to gallons, ratios, basic geometry).
Computer Skills :
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, and PowerPoint; others as needed as well as the ability to operate general office equipment.
