Job Description
SUMMARY:
Performs construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems that include but is not limited to; doors, windows, roofs, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, belt systems, basic industrial electrical controls, water cabinets and passenger loading bridges. Knowledgeable and proficient in the maintenance of building systems as well as the ability to operate all types of equipment for SARAA including Harrisburg International Airport, a commercial service small hub airport that serves approximately 1.4 million passengers annually as well as Capital City, Gettysburg and Franklin County Regional Airports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform with knowledge and proficiencies the following tasks: operate, trouble shoot, restore to operation or repair various building equipment such as revolving doors, sliding doors, overhead doors, lights, water closets, piping, baggage handling systems, passenger loading bridges and roofing.
- Perform basic building inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure building systems are operating properly and to detect conditions that require maintenance action.
- Account for and manage repair parts and building stocks.
- Operate various types of light and heavy equipment used at the airport.
- Performs basic maintenance tasks to include basic carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical.
- Comply with all SARAA directives, including safety standards.
- Perform snow removal operations which include being knowledgeable and proficient in snow techniques and operating various types of snow removal equipment.
- Performs complementary customer service functions consistent with Airport Customer Service Standards.
- Performs any other reasonable duty or assignment delegated by proper authority.

Education and Experience:
Must possess a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Must be able to pass FAA Training as required.
Required Licenses, Certificates, Conditions:
A valid PA driver’s license with a good driving record or ability to obtain PA license within 30 days of hire date. Ability to pass a 10-year background and criminal investigation in order to be issued Airport Identification Badge.
Cognitive Tasks:
Ability to comprehend, retain, and follow oral and written instructions. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Must effectively set priorities. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl, talk and hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, and must be able to distinguish full visual color spectrum. May be required to wear a respirator or other protective clothing while performing an assigned task. Must be able to work in confined spaces, and heights. Must be able to work around all type of insects. Requires working with hazardous materials.
Work Environment:
While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme outside weather conditions, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, working in precarious places, with risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
Language and Communication Skills:
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Ability to establish effective working relationships with subordinates. Regularly communicates with supervisors, co-workers, FAA tower operators, other internal departments, contractors, and consultants. Uses ground and maintenance radio communication equipment, requiring correct terminology and ability to speak clearly and concisely.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to perform basic math skills.
Computer Skills:
Basic skills preferred.
