What are the responsibilities and job description for the Music Director and Conductor position at SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY CHORALE?
The Music Director/Conductor of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale provides the Chorale’s artistic vision and directs rehearsals and concerts of the SVC and accompanying musicians.
Duties include:
- 1. Conducts the Chorale and orchestra (or other accompanists) at concerts and engages audience members about works performed.
- 2. Auditions all prospective Chorale members, including students from area colleges and universities for the SVC Scholarship student positions.
- 3. Serves as an ambassador for the chorale.
- 4. Collaborates with Executive Director to set the rehearsal and concert schedules for each season.
- 5. Attends and directs each rehearsal. If unable to attend, plans for a qualified substitute conductor to lead that rehearsal according to guidelines set up by the Music Director/Conductor, and arranges for compensation for that substitute.
- 6. Collaborates with rehearsal accompanist throughout the season to meet performance expectations.
- 7. Chooses soloists, instrumentalists, and/or guest performers and collaborates with Executive Director to arrange contracts.
- 8. Proposes each season’s program to the Board, including musical, financial, administrative, and/or operational requirements. Season programs are typically presented each October for the following two seasons.
- 9. Provides programming information for grant proposals, concert printed programs, newsletters, and publicity.
- 10. Contributes to fundraising efforts through contact with current and potential donors, including attending donor events.
- 11. Works closely with chorale staff to carry out administrative responsibilities as needed.
