GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Responsible for providing leadership, planning, organizing, and administering all Boy’s Outdoor Track & Field program aspects.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Implement essential components of the school site interscholastic sports program, including coaching and supervision of students.
- Supervise students during practice, games, tournaments, and team travel.
- Assist with arranging team games, schedules, tournaments, and transportation.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate sports activities and training workouts, and coaches individuals concerning specific physical performance activities and procedures.
- Provide teaching and instruction in athletic skill development.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of school equipment.
- Model fundamental skills and techniques.
- Model proper dress, language, demeanor, and student/teacher relations.
- Follow district athletic policies, rules, and regulations.
- Instruct, explain, and enforce health and safety rules and regulations.
- Work effectively and maintain positive relations with all school and community stakeholders including parents.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) rules
- Specific knowledge of subjects assigned
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills
- Strong problem solving skills
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must demonstrate the professional and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with students, parents, school administration and members of the community.
- Candidate must possess good moral character.
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and have personal transportation.
- Candidate must have 3 years experience as a coach preferred.
- Must be able to work extra hours during evenings and weekends.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
- Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classrooms; gymnasiums, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas.
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting objects weighing up to approximately 25 pounds, and occasional lifting in excess of 75 pounds.
- Other limited physical activities are required.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise and hazards.
- Contact with other staff members, coaches, athletic trainer, and parents are required.
- Contact with parents by phone and in person is necessary.
- Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required.
EVALUATION
- The athletic director and building administrator will evaluate performance on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
