Summary of Position
Under the general direction of the Toolroom Supervisor, the Tool & Die maker lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools and fits and assembles parts to construct, repair, and calibrate plastic molds, jigs, fixtures, and gages used to manufacture or repair Company products. Projects are given general supervision, and the finished product is inspected.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities, & Authority
- Plans machine and bench procedures and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, and models, and other specifications to construct, alter and repair tools, dies and fixtures, gages, etc.
- Sets up and operates various machine tools to work with a variety of metals, metal alloys, plastics and composition materials. Works with boring/drilling machines, EDM, lathes, milling machines, power saws, surface grinders, welders, HASS 3 Axis mill, Dead Tru.
- Performs close and exacting bench and assembly operations to fit, align, calibrate, adjust and finish work. Calibrates work while in process and upon completion. Precision fits and assembles parts to produce end items of specified finish and tolerances. Uses precision measuring instruments such as height gage, micrometer, vernier caliper, optical comparator, master gage blocks for exacting measurement.
- Makes shop computations relating the dimensional sizes and relationships of parts and working
tolerance clearances. - Performs developmental and experimental work occasionally as directed.
- Follows Sussex IM’s environmental policies to protect and minimize our impact on the
environment. - Maintains a safe 5S working environment to minimize the possibility of an injury. Always acts in a
safe manner and ensures that those around them do not put themselves or others at risk. Reports
any unsafe conditions to a manager. - Performs other related duties and assignments as assigned or required.
Required Education, Credentials, & Certifications
- Must be Journeyman Tool & Die Maker or have equivalent work experience
Job Specification
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with thermoplastic injection molds.
