Sustana is the leading manufacture of sustainably produced, premium recycled fiber and paper, utilizing post-consumer material to create high-quality, low carbon footprint products. As a trusted voice in recovery, sustainable manufacturing of paper, fibers, and packaging, we help customers, suppliers, investors, and other stakeholders achieve their sustainability goals. We have 12 different locations across North America in three different segments of the pulp and paper industry (Paper, Fiber and Recovery). Notably in De Pere, Wisconsin, Lvis (Quebec region), and the Montreal region, serving a multitude of customers throughout America.
THE ROLE
The Corporate Counsel for Sustana US and Canada would be responsible for overseeing all legal matters across both countries business on legal rights and duties and ensuring that the company operates within the law. The incumbent will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of legal subjects, such as contracts, disputes with vendors and customers, sales, regulatory compliance, business operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely with the Senior Management Team to understand the commercial process, as well as procurement, production, quality, assessing risks and liability.
- Support with reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of national and international business-related contracts with third parties.
- Identify potential legal risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring the company's activities comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Managing and coordinating any legal disputes or litigation involving the company, including working with external counsel as necessary.
- Ensure the company is updated on legislative and regulatory changes that may affect the companys operations
- Serving as the primary point of contact for legal matters with internal stakeholders, external partners, regulatory bodies and our PE partners
- Define internal processes and provide training to the company on legal topics and promote legal, compliance and risk management awareness within the company
- On occasions, you will be part of integrated global project teams, to support complex projects locally and abroad from start to finish.
QUALIFICATIONS
OTHER INFORMATION (Hybrid or remote role)
We are open to consider candidates based in Montreal Canada or Eastern US. The role may require site visits to various locations. Occasional travel may be necessary in Canada and the United States.
