Essential Job Functions
Description of Essential Job Duties
- Diagnose, rebuilds and repairs vehicles and equipment.
- Organizes, tests, and maintains an inventory of parts needed to facilitate repairs.
- Performs inspections and preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
- Properly spec, installs, removes, and terminates various types of wiring including, but not limited to 12V and 120V electrical systems, Ethernet, USB, and wireless/radio antenna wiring.
- Performs both in house and road service repairs.
- Maintains an orderly and safe work environment.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports.
- Completes work in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to customary work practices and completion times.
- Performs related duties as required and as directed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Methods, materials, tools and techniques used in vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance.
- Diagnosing mechanical problems and performing repairs.
- Safety practices and procedures.
- Mechanical design and fabrication.
- Knowledge of occupational safety and health policies and procedures related to vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Electrical systems, including computerized induction/ignition systems.
- Use of power and hand tools.
- Use of diagnostic equipment.
- Welding- MIG/TIG/Other.
- Operation of vehicles and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
- Work varying shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Diagnose problems and make repairs in the field on a 24-hour basis.
- Effectively handle lifting of various objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Work extended hours out of doors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including manufacturers’ service specifications.
