We are so glad you are interested in joining Sutter Health! Organization: EMC - Eden Medical Center Position Overview: Manages the trauma registry database system for the Trauma Services department. Collects, compiles and presents data regarding the incidence, severity and causes of traumatic injuries, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and accessibility of information. Maintains clinical and/or research databases for identified programs/ specialty clinics. Collects data used for multiple purposes, which may include process improvement activities and clinical effectiveness/ research studies. May prepare information for patient/family education and/ or participate in community outreach activities. Job Description: JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: TRAUMA REGISTRY: • Identifies patients with diagnosis meeting Trauma criteria; abstracts medical records for trauma registry information, coding diagnoses according to scoring data. • Submits trauma registry data to the county/state as appropriate. Maintains all quality assurance issues related to the registry. • Produces reports from the trauma registry for injury research, performance/quality improvement and administration. DEPARTMENT SUPPORT: • Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare support team. • Maintains computer files and systems. • Maintains files of reference materials, relevant reports, correspondence, and department records. • May research and evaluate medical literature on the Internet and prepare reference materials for professional/ patient education. • May maintain office supplies and review and revise departmental/service manuals. SERVICE: • Performs duties according to the Sutter Difference standards and activities to assist caregivers in ensuring the best patient/family experience. • Completes a variety of department projects simultaneously and within established time frames. • Practices active listening and responds appropriately to questions or written communication. • Works with all customers in a courteous and respectful manner. • Actively seeks the answer to inquiries/ requests to meet customer expectations. If the answer is not immediately available, responds back to the customer in a timely manner. • Appropriately triages phone inquiries to others when appropriate. EDUCATION: HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 1 year of recent relevant experience. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Proficient knowledge of ICD-9 coding. Ability to review and abstract information from the medical record and/or various external database. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology sufficient to evaluate, abstract, and code specific diagnosis and treatment information from patient medical records. Data abstraction principles and guidelines, basic math and ability to perform basic analytical calculations. Must have working knowledge of regulations regarding confidentiality, release of medical information and the role of regulatory agencies in assigned setting. Proven sound judgment and ability to work within delegated authorities. Must demonstrate written and verbal interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills, thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling. Ability to read, write, hear, and verbally communicate in English to the degree required to perform the job. Computer proficiency in Microsoft software to include Excel, Access and Word. Pay Range is $38.64 to $48.29 / hour The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled.
