Safety Position Summary
The Manager, Safety provides safety support services for Sutton Contracting, Inc. and affiliate companies. Lead and manage a comprehensive safety program to support our construction personnel through training to enable them to perform their tasks in a safe manner. Motivate and develop teams, organize and encourage teamwork through collaboration and relationship building to ensure employee well-being and productivity. Collaborate with team members to ensure safety protocols are followed and create appropriate solutions designed to prevent issues from arising.
Safety Manager Job Responsibilities
1. Promote a culture of safety excellence while contributing to the success of our organization.
2. Lead development and implementation of the company safety training curriculum compliant with OSHA guidelines to include development of training courses and teaching of training sessions.
3. Conduct regular safety site inspections to ensure compliance, identify corrective actions, and evaluate performance.
4. Perform regular risk assessments.
5. Investigate root cause analysis of incident or illness occurrences and make corrections as necessary.
6. Assure regulatory compliance by assessing and correcting work conditions to adhere to safety protocols imposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
7. Coordinate with managers to schedule equipment inspections and repair or replace if necessary.
8. Perform safety and other training for staff as assigned including fall protection, distracted driving, forklift training, health and safety, accident prevention and emergency response.
9. Partners with management to enforce policies as necessary.
10. Manage worker compensation claims data and investigate injury claims to protect the company from fraudulent claims.
11. Manage the return-to-work program for injured workers returning to work.
12. Proficient with Monday application to verify entries, monitor and facilitate coordination and communications between managers, field supervisors, subcontractors, estimating and accounting teams.
13. Ensures security, integrity and confidentiality of data.
14. Provides reporting as requested.
15. Promote safety culture (See it, Say it)
16. Monitor construction activities and advise management on compliance with applicable regulations and/or laws.
17. Direct the investigation of serious accidents, major property damage, and incidents with the public. Analyze investigative data and develop preventive measures to eliminate or control hazards and potential liability; maintain statistical data for accidents.
18. Travel to various job locations (up to 75%)
19. Stay current on industry trends and best practices in safety management
20. Proven experience in safety management, particularly in a construction environment
21. Other duties as assigned by management.
Safety Manager Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Prefer bachelor’s degree ideally in safety and risk management.
3. Construction safety and compliance experience (5 years minimum).
4. Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
5. Prefer bilingual English and Spanish.
6. Strong working knowledge safety systems and protocols In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and compliance management.
7. Strong understanding of risk management principles.
8. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
9. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
10. Prefer construction safety-related certifications.
11. Proficient with email and telephone skills.
12. Proficient with MS Office Suite.
13. Highly organized, detail oriented, self-motivated and able to meet specific deadlines.
14. Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
15. Good analytical skills, able to make sound decisions utilizing the data at hand.
16. Able to work in a high volume, fast paced environment.
17. Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships.
18. Knowledge of business and management principles.
19. Power tool and equipment efficiency.
Safety Manager Physical Demands
1. May require heavy lifting up to 50 pounds.
2. May require climbing a ladder up to 30 feet.
3. May require exposure to weather and temperature extremes.
4. May require prolonged standing.
5. May require extensive walking over rough terrain and construction zones.
6. May require protective clothing and equipment e.g., hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, steel-toe boots.
7. May require travel.
