Suttons Bay Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our team! Location: 1650 S W Bay Shore Dr, Suttons Bay, MI 49682🕒 Clinic Hours:
Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Seasonal Saturdays (Memorial Day–Labor Day): 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Sunday: Closed

We’re seeking a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our outpatient care team. While previous experience is a plus, we're happy to train the right candidate—someone with a great attitude, a team-first mindset, and a passion for veterinary medicine.
You’ll be supported by a strong, experienced team of Veterinary Assistants who are eager to share their knowledge and mentor new teammates.
🔍 Preferred Skills & Responsibilities:
Assisting veterinarians in exam rooms
Safe and effective restraint of dogs and cats
Filling prescriptions and preparing medications
Venipuncture (a bonus—not required, and we’ll train!)
Basic microscope use and familiarity with in-house lab equipment

Physical Therapy: One of our doctors counsels pet owners with post-operative exercises and recovery plans.
Fear Free: The majority of our team is Fear Free certified, and we cover the cost for employees to earn this credential. We strive to use low-stress handling techniques whenever possible.
Technology Forward with Scribe Note
We're excited to be utilizing Scribe Note, a new AI-driven technology that records conversations during appointments and converts them into detailed, editable medical documentation—all with just one click! This innovative tool helps our veterinary professionals spend less time on charting and more time doing what they love—caring for pets.
As doctors speak with clients about their pet’s history and exam findings, Scribe Note intelligently captures the details and generates an accurate transcribed note, ready to be reviewed and added into our Cornerstone practice management system.

Responsibilities
How you'll make an impact:
- Our Veterinary Assistants assist the Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in all of their duties
- The Veterinary Assistant helps to prepare animals for exams and surgery.
- The Veterinary Assistant aids in performing medical treatments.
- The Veterinary Assistant will perform or prepare laboratory tests.
- The Veterinary Assistant will administer medications under the direction of a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician.
- The Veterinary Assistant will obtain and properly handle/prepare in-house and laboratory specimens (cytology, blood draws, blood smear, fecal, etc.)
- The Veterinary Assistant works in cooperation with staff to attend to any immediate needs.
- The Veterinary Assistant handles animals and their owners in a responsive, courteous and tactful manner, and inform staff and clients of any pertinent medical information related to animal care.
- The Veterinary Assistant maintains a healthy, safe, sanitary, pleasant and clean facilities for the animals.
Qualifications
Physical demands and work environment
- The Veterinary Assistant must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Requires sufficient ambulatory skills.
- The Veterinary Assistant must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
- The Veterinary Assistant is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.
- The Veterinary Assistant must be fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position.
- The Veterinary Assistant must be able to exchange accurate information with all clients and team members.
