What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Kennel Tech position at Suwannee County Sheriff Office?
This is a part-time position. The schedule is weekends and holidays from 9:00am-1:00pm. **Cannot be allergic to animals.**
Job Summary:
Kennel Technicians are responsible for the day-to-day care of in-house animals as well as maintaining cleanliness. This includes feeding, watering, cleaning, walking, and monitoring the well-being of dogs and cats. Kennel Technicians must have sufficient physical strength, mobility, and stamina to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects, the dexterity and confidence to administer medications, and the ability to monitor pets for signs of distress or disease. It is essential that they have the ability and willingness to learn and the desire to provide gentle, compassionate care for all animals. Kennel experience is not always a prerequisite for this position. In addition, the kennel staff is also responsible for the cleanliness of the kennel. Cannot be allergic to animals.

Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Valid Driver’s License
· Minimum age requirement is 18 years old.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Provide compassionate care to all animals.
· To thoroughly clean and disinfect all animal holding rooms on a daily basis.
· Responsible for feeding and monitoring eating habits of all animals.
· To observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.
· Report signs of illness, disease, injury or unusual activity to Animal Control Supervisor.
· Perform needed cleaning and maintenance of all equipment and tools used in job assignments.
· Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
· Maintain equipment used to complete job assignments and keeping such equipment and tools in good working condition. Notifying Animal Control Supervisor as to major repairs needed or new equipment necessary to adequately complete assignments. Keep equipment and tools put away in proper storage areas.
· Communication in regards to overall animal health and well-being.
· Cleans equipment and facilities using chemicals and supplies; understands the importance of safety of use of chemicals in our facility.
· Follow OSHA standards. Be able to find Material Safety Data Sheets quickly.
· Maintain constant vigilance regarding open doorways that could allow animals to escape from the facility.
· Feeding livestock when we have them in our care.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Genuinely enjoys working with animals and is able to deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
· Can work unaffected in an environment where dogs are barking.
· Can conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner even when stressed and/or focused on individual tasks.
· Can follow a regular schedule for cleaning and sanitizing kennel and all cages, runs, wards and related areas; changes litter boxes and good/water bowls.
· Can feed each animal as prescribed.
· Understands the importance of prioritizing tasks and keeps oneself busy and productive during work shifts.
· Understands and carries out the daily, weekly, and monthly chore list to maintain the kennel cleanliness, the equipment, and overall appearance of the kennel.
· Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
· Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees.
· Physical Effort: Work requires lifting and carrying animals and food bags. Walks or stands for extended periods or time; frequently works in a bent position.
· Working conditions: The work place is often noisy because of the number of animals present. May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and contagious diseases.
