What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Sales Manager- Boat Builder position at Suzuki?
The Boat Builder District Sales Manager will manage sales and client relationships in the assigned geographic territory. Responsible for the management of the assigned district, using consultative selling skills to assist builders within the district to achieve the assigned unit wholesale and inventory level goals. Maintains accurate records on district activity and communicates builder and market conditions to executive management through written as well as verbal reports. Maintain builder compliance with Suzuki company policies through consistent communication with the Boat Builders and Suzuki sales office. Will work from a home office, traveling overnight at least 60% of each month. Business expense account, company vehicle, salary incentives, full health and 401k benefits.
- Communicates sales programs, market conditions and competitive advantages to each Boat Builder in order to increase sales and attain sales goals. Conduct sales and product training with the Boat Builder principle and their employees to increase their knowledge of Suzuki Marine product line and Suzuki Connect.
- Prospect for new Boat Builder business as well as establish new business for Suzuki Marine.
- Assist the Boat Builder in making accurate forecast of product needs throughout the year along with assisting with product training of their sales force. Work with each Boat Builder to supply all needed sales information on a timely basis.
- Assist with the control of inventory and analyze sales information to release product to the appropriate Boat Builder resulting in maximum sales. Take full responsibility for handling Credit turndown orders by either getting the Boat Builder credit approved or switching the order to other Boat Builders in the district that have available financial resources. Ultimately responsible for getting all accepted orders shipped regardless of financing, including prepay.
- Assist with the creative development of advertising programs as well as getting maximum participation in company created promotions. Counsel the Boat Builders in proper use of Marketing funds to enhance the quality and quantity of builder advertising and promotions.
- Motivate the Boat Builders to participate in boat shows or other events to maximize the exposure of Suzuki product in the district. Assist with set-up and selling at major boat shows, Builder and Suzuki dealer meetings, and other promotional functions throughout the U.S.
- Maintain effective prospect records and contact system which will enhance the ability to establish quality new Boat Builders for the District. Responsible for obtaining required documentation necessary to establish a new Boat Builder or change of ownership/location and follow through to ensure documents are forwarded for Home Office approval. Provide support to obtain Boat Builder flooring line with a financial institution.
- Through consistent communications via in person, phone & email; communicate with Boat Builder to solve problems that could negatively affect sales performance. Maintain a positive helpful objective attitude keeping within the policies and good business relations.
- Communicate Boat Builder, competition and market conditions to the Department Manager-National Boat Builder Sales as well as any special reports that may be necessary to help management with the creation of programs and plans. Assist with feedback in order to analyze each program (as requested).
- Timely submission of weekly and monthly reports. Including Monthly Boat Builder, Market Report and Travel Itinerary. Keep online calendar up to date with future travel plans.
- Administer the SMA Credit policy as outlined in the Marine Credit Policy Guide. Report to the Credit Department and the Dept. Manager-National Boat Builder Sales any Boat Builder activity that may result in financial loss to the company. Assist all Boat Builders in financial management of their business to maintain a clean credit accounts for outboard engines and parts. Assist the Credit Department in the collection of outstanding accounts.
Minimum Requirements
4 years as a field sales/service management experience in the marine industry.
Good interpersonal selling skills and working knowledge of advertising, sales and promotion.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills required.
Microsoft Office knowledge.
Wiling to travel overnight a minimum of 60% of each month.
Valid driver’s license and driving privileges.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to competently launch and operate a boat.
