The Entry-Level Marine Technician will support daily operations and boat testing activities, performing hands-on tasks involving boat operation, rigging, and maintenance. This role requires strong communication, mechanical proficiency, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
- Communicate effectively and professionally with employees at all levels.
- Execute operational tasks accurately based on given instructions.
- Operate boats as instructed with a strong understanding of each boat’s functions.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Report daily activities and progress to supervisors.
Boat Operation
- Operate boats ranging from 18 to 45 feet, in both protected waters and open Gulf waters, to accumulate operational hours on outboard (O/B) motors for research purposes.
- Hold a valid Florida boating license, having completed a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA)-approved boating course or equivalent.
- Assist with a variety of technical center activities, including:
- Facility maintenance
- Boat washing and fueling
- Trailer repair
- Launching and recovering boats from ramps
- Perform maintenance on boat systems and engines as required.
Rigging and Installation Operations
- Install and remove boat electrical systems (e.g., lights, steering, multifunction displays) and mechanical systems (e.g., fuel, water, steering).
- Remove and install outboard engines.
- Operate advanced navigation and autopilot systems.
- Follow written and verbal instructions for installations.
Travel
- Available for limited travel (5%-10%) to attend training or service seminars at the corporate facility in Tampa, FL.
Skills and Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Basic knowledge of boat mechanics, outboard motors, and technical components.
- Familiarity with boat electrical systems, steering, controls, fuel systems, and navigation safety.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to tow boats up to 40 feet on public roadways.
- Competent in using power tools and able to lift up to 75 lbs.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in the marine industry (3-5 years) or equivalent Military experience.
- High school diploma or GED required; a technical degree or certification in marine products is preferred.
- Outboard Engine Service Certifications are preferred.
