Position Purpose
The barback ensures that the bartender has everything they need to run a successful and efficient service: clean glassware, prepared garnishes, well stocked liquor, beer, spirits, ice cubes, napkins, straws etc. They are also responsible for keeping the service area tidy (cleaning up spills and broken glass) and running to the walk-in to restock whatever’s running low.
While barbacks do not typically make drinks or take orders from guests, they have to practice many of the same skills that a bartender has: efficiency, organization, the ability to multitask, and keen intuition. Strong menu knowledge on both food and beverage is needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess business levels/events and set up and stock bars accordingly
- Ensure bar is well stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages
- Ensure bar is well stocked with all juices, mixers, ice, garnishes, napkins, straws, trash bin liners and all paper goods
- Greet all guests in a friendly manner
- Respond immediately and appropriately to all guest requests during service
- Thank guests as they are leaving
- Clear and clean bar area after guests leave, take tableware to dish room and place silverware, dishes, glassware, etc. in appropriate areas for washing
- Keep all liquor and beverage storage areas stocked, clean and organized at all times
- Help with inventory and communicate items that need replenishment
- Sweep, mop and remove trash and boxes from all bars and storage rooms
- Maintain a high level of personal cleanliness and immaculate uniform presentation
- Be a team player; help out fellow staff whenever possible
- Performs other duties as assigned by Manager on Duty
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
- Must be able to effectively communicate
- Must be able to follow directions with focus to detail
- Must be able to work under minimal supervision
- Must be able to fulfill physical requirements of the job- carry/push cart with beverage heavy trays from time to time. (40lb)
- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
Qualifications
Experience: At least 1 year in high volume, upscale restaurant or hotel
Certification: Must possess current Serve Safe Food Handler Card
Salary : $20
